Range Explanation:

  • Hiring Range is an estimate of where you can receive an offer. The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors including your skills qualifications experience education licenses training and internal equity.

  • Pay Range is the entire compensation range for the position.

The Trades Maintenance Specialist II leads and participates in advanced or expert levels of operation maintenance construction or modifications to equipment complex systems (including natural resource features or ecological systems) projects or facilities frequently operating independently and serving as the system or Department expert on complex equipment systems (mechanical or ecological) or projects. This classification is distinguished from the Trades Maintenance (TM) Supervisor which typically exercises full supervisory authority over a crew or work-center engaged in facilities grounds equipment or specialized systems maintenance.

Essential Functions:

As defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act this classification may include any of the following tasks knowledge skills and other characteristics. This list is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and tasks performed by incumbents of this class. Work assignments may vary depending on the departments need and will be communicated to the applicant or incumbent by the supervisor.

  • Performs operational and preventive maintenance on complex facilities equipment and systems including ecological or natural resource areas;

  • Executes critical repairs to systems and equipment to maintain functionality ensuring compliance with relevant standards permits and regulations;

  • Acts as a technical expert in the maintenance and modification of complex equipment and systems including natural resource management;

  • Interprets and applies relevant codes standards blueprints schematics and diagrams to facilitate work processes;

  • Prepares working sketches drawings and resource estimates for assigned projects and modifications;

  • Operates specialized equipment to support various activities within the organization;

  • Recommends improvements to equipment facilities and systems to enhance operability reliability and compliance with standards;

  • Acts as a work center shift supervisor in the absence of the Trades Maintenance Supervisor (TM Supervisor);

  • Inspects and approves work performed by maintenance staff ensuring quality and adherence to standards;

  • Coordinates equipment modifications and maintenance with facility managers and operations staff to minimize service disruptions;

  • Maintains security and confidentiality of sensitive equipment materials and end-products particularly in law enforcement or correctional settings;

  • Participates in the development of Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and contracts for equipment supplies and services;

  • Monitors contractor/vendor performance to ensure compliance with contract provisions for equipment supplies and services;

  • Provides or coordinates specialized training for maintenance staff on supported systems and equipment;

  • Maintains comprehensive records of work performed equipment modifications and operational logs and prepares periodic or special reports for management.

Minimum Qualifications:

Six years of journey-level experience in electrical plumbing HVAC roofing carpentry water treatment and/or general building maintenance.

OR:

Four years of experience with Pima County in a Trades Maintenance Specialist I or closely-related position as determined by the department head at the time of recruitment.

Preferred Qualifications:(Be specific in describing your experience in your application. Ensure the descriptions provided illustrate your competencies specifically addressing the required and preferred qualifications.)

  • Experience with/knowledge of written communication especially with written shift summaries and documentation of issues.

  • Experience with/knowledge of performing visual site inspections for maintenance issues including random follow-up quality control inspections for completed work.

  • Experience communicating with management regarding parts supplies and tools needed for maintenance projects.

  • Experience in a professional setting using Microsoft Outlook Maximo and Workday.

  • Minimum six (6) months experience in a maintenance setting in a lead supervisor or foreman capacity overseeing a crew of four (4) or larger.

  • Experience with recognizing safety hazards and providing the necessary tools or equipment to safely carry out a task.

  • Experience with preventive maintenance programs and associated tracking/scheduling.

  • Experience with training maintenance staff as needed on the correct use of tools equipment or related apparatus.

  • Experience with/knowledge of electrical plumbing HVAC roofing carpentry water treatment general building maintenance and a good understanding of energy management systems.

Selection Procedure:

Pima County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates that meet the minimum qualifications. All applications will be assessed based on an evaluation of the listed education and experience. Candidates meeting the minimum qualifications may be further evaluated/scored against any advertised Preferred Qualifications. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidate from a referral list provided by Human Resources. Additional assessments/testing may be required as part of the selection process.

Supplemental Information:

Licenses and Certificates: Valid driver license is required at time of application. Valid AZ driver license is required at time of appointment. The successful applicant will be subject to a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine applicants suitability to operate county vehicles in accordance with Pima County administrative procedures. Failure to obtain and maintain the required licenses and certifications shall be grounds for termination. Any offer of employment resulting from this recruitment is contingent upon Fleet Services review and approval of the candidates driving positions require a valid Arizona Class D driver license at the time of application or appointment. Some positions require a valid Arizona commercial driver license (CDL) with appropriate endorsement(s) at the time of appointment or prior to completion of an initial/promotional probation period. Positions requiring a CDL are also subject to applicable State of Arizona and federal standards rules and regulations on physical requirements including drug and alcohol testing. Some positions require Arizona certification as an herbicide/pesticide applicator or backflow device inspector/repair person or installer etc. at the time of appointment or prior to completion of an initial/promotional probation period. Failure to obtain / maintain the required licensure shall be grounds for termination.

Special Notice Items: The County requires pre-employment background checks. Successful candidates will receive a post-offer pre-employment background screening to include verification of work history education and criminal conviction history. A prior criminal conviction will not automatically disqualify a candidate from employment with the County. Some positions may require satisfactory completion of a personal background investigation by the court or law enforcement agencies due to the need for access to County Attorney and Court facilities records and communication systems. Some positions carry the risk of exposure to infectious diseases blood-borne pathogens asbestos or wastewater products therefore special medical screening prior to or during employment may be necessary to assure employee health and safety.

Physical/Sensory Requirements: Physical and sensory abilities will be determined by position. Some positions require the ability to: lift and carry up to seventy-five pounds; safely operate assigned vehicles and other powered equipment; work in extremes of heat humidity dust cold; safely wear required safety clothing/equipment; work with on in the presence of obnoxious odors; work with noxious or potentially hazardous chemicals compounds or products; ascend and descend ladders and stairs to reach and work upon elevated or below-grade work platforms and job sites; differentiate between colors.

Working Conditions: Working conditions will be determined by the position.
