POSITION DESCRIPTION

TITLE: Youth Lead Intern 67 Sueos

JOB CATEGORY: Non-Exempt (Hourly )

STATUS: Part-Time 18 hours per week through June 30 2026

TYPE OF EMPLOYMENT: Temporary

DIRECT SUPERVISOR: 67 Sueos Program Director

REGION/UNIT: US / West Region

LOCATION: Oakland CA USA Tuesday Thursday in office required.

GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION

67 Sueos is an Oakland-based youth organizing program with leadership development artivism and trauma-healing work at the center.

The Youth Leads (YL) will work alongside two other YL and 67 Sueos staff to develop and co-facilitate their Ethnic Studies class at Rudsdale Continuation School and HYPHY afterschool program. The Youth Leads will mentor Oakland and Bay Area high school youth to connect with local coalitions that fight back against the policing and incarceration of BIPOC youth. They will support 67 Sueos staff leads in supporting and finalizing quarterly projects. The Youth Lead interns will prioritize utilizing art and cultural work as a primary form of youth programing and organizing.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Serve as a youth mentor and role model to 67 Sueos program participants.
  • Co-create curriculum agendas and facilitate weekly youth programming.
  • Be an active member in 67 Sueos campaigns and coalitions by mobilizing youth participants.

Reimagine Youth Justice Campaign

  • Mentor and support youth organizer in their Monthly Pop-Ups.
  • Attend Monthly Sessions Support facilitation.
  • Outreach (i.e. Canva Posts Flyers Social Media etc.).
  • Attend Council Meetings.
  • Support and Attend outside events/actions.

Migrant Justice Efforts

  • ICE out of California Coalition.
  • Bi-weekly Coalition Calls.
  • Involve youth in local actions/policy advocacy.
  • Monarca Migrante Project.
  • Connect & network with local immigrant justice organizations networks and coalitions.
  • Support and connect youth to attend local meetings events actions and activities.

Ethnic Studies Conference

  • Attend Weekly Meetings.
  • Participate in an ESC Committee.
  • Plan and Coordinate ESC event.
  • Participate in day-of activities.
  • Support staff with increasing 67 Sueos social media presence and utilizing social media to base-build conduct outreach and to highlight program and events.
  • YL will be expected to contribute to our Social Media Channels on a regular basis. Products include but are not limited to: Posts Stories Pictures Videos Slide shows etc.
  • Support Staff in organizing and hosting digital and in-person events.

Operations

  • Support staff in maintaining a well-organized digital library of youth curriculum youth evaluation forms youth permission slips etc.
  • Maintain a well-organized digital calendar that outlines youth programming campaign timelines staff team meetings etc.
  • Youth Lead Interns will be trained in how to maintain our social media channels with other interns and staff.
  • Regular attendance and punctuality are required.
  • Operates safely in all conditions and follows policies and procedures.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.

SUPERVISORY / MANAGEMENT REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum Education Required. High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum Experience Required. Minimum 1 year of experience in youth programming required (participated in an internship after school program youth organization etc. as a high school youth for 1-2 years or more). 1 year of experience in community organizing / social justice work with local youth of color required.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
  • Familiarity with policy issues affecting youth regarding immigration the criminal justice system and local education
  • Ability to work evenings and/or weekends and to travel as
  • Ability to work effectively independently and within a team environment.
  • Experience with standard Microsoft Office and related technology.
  • Must be capable of working under tight time constraints in a high-volume environment with multiple priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work and communicate with diverse staff.

COMPENSATION

The AFSC offers a competitive Total Rewards package. This position is Non-Exempt Salary Family: Intern Job Code Intern Minimum Hourly Rate - $21.22 per hour. There are no medical dental or life insurance benefits short-term or long-term insurance benefits with this position. AFSC does participate in unemployment workers compensation and social security.
