Bus Driver
Reports To: Director of Transportation
FLSA Status: Non-exempt Support
Terms of Employment:182 days; salary paid on Bus Driver scale and work year to be established by the Board
Job Summary:
To transport students over scheduled routes and/or to/from special excursions; ensuring vehicle operation is in safe operating condition and ensuring safety of students during transport loading and unloading from buses.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid CDL with minimum B Class Plus P&S Endorsements
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work a tablet for student attendance and routing directions
- Alternatives to the above qualifications as the board may find appropriate and acceptable
Essential Duties:
- Advise students and other passengers on appropriate behavior to reinforce federal state and district policies and regulations and maintain passenger safety.
- Assess incidents complaints accidents and/or potential emergency situations to resolve and/or recommend a resolution.
- Assist students and other passengers in safe loading and unloading from buses including both emergency situations and normal transport.
- Attend meetings classroom and behind-the-wheel training and safety meetings to maintain skills and meet the criteria requirements of a school bus driver.
- Cleans assigned vehicles both interior and exterior to ensure the safety appearance and sanitation of vehicles.
- Conduct emergency evacuation drills to ensure efficiency of procedures and compliance with mandated requirements.
- Drive assigned vehicle to a specified locations on specified days to maintain the vehicle in a safe operating condition.
- Drive school bus to transport passengers over scheduled routes to and from school and/or field trips in a safe and timely manner.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections (e.g. tire pressure exterior condition mirrors gauges cameras bus equipment and interior condition) to ensure the safe operating condition of the vehicle and comply with mandated guidelines.
- Prepare documents and reports (e.g. trip reports incident reports inspection records passenger misconduct mileage logs student attendance logs student seating charts routing information) to provide written support and/or convey information.
- Report observations and/or incidents (e.g. discipline inappropriate social behavior) to communicate information to appropriate personnel.
- Responds to inquiries (e.g. students parents other school personnel) to provide information and/or direction.
- Supervise students and other passengers during transit to maintain safety and follow district policy.
- Assist other personnel to support them in the completion of their work activities.
- Operate the Traversa tablet for routing directions and for loading and unloading students at assigned stops.

Physical Requirements:
- Perform physical labor including the operation of vehicles and travel throughout the school district.
- Prolonged periods of sitting lifting students climbing on and off buses using foot controls to operate the accelerator and brake pedals and pushing buttoned door openers and closures.
- Sufficient agility to move freely throughout the bus bend stoop and kneel as necessary to secure students and/or equipment restraints and tie-downs (e.g. wheelchairs seat belts) to ensure the safety and well-being of students.
- Ability to evacuate students from a bus in an emergency including properly exiting from the rear-most floor-level emergency exit and dragging a 125-lb weight 30 feet within 30 seconds.
Working Conditions:
- Generally the job requires 80% sitting 10% walking and 10% standing.
- Requires fine finger dexterity to use bus equipment.
- Effectively coordinate a variety of difficult technical administrative functions at a level requiring extensive independent decision-making within established rules policies and procedures
- Must regularly lift and/or move objects up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds.
- May experience constant interruptions inflexible deadlines and changes to normal routines.
- Must be physically qualified to operate a commercial motor vehicle in accordance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration regulations and remain physically qualified to operate such vehicles throughout their employment.
- Subject to alcohol and drug testing in accordance with applicable state and federal regulations and Board of Education policy.

The performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Boards policy on Evaluation of Classified Support Staff Personnel.
