Job Description Summary:

This is a one-year fellowship with clinical and research involvement. The Pediatric Behavioral and Developmental Division at the University of Kansas Medical Center is an interdisciplinary university division with a focus on clinical care training community outreach and research related to autism and other neurodevelopmental disabilities. Under the administrative direction of the MCH Project Director and the clinical direction of the Psychology Discipline Supervisor the Psychology Postdoctoral Fellow will have the opportunity to be a long-term trainee in the Divisions Leadership and Education in Neurodevelopmental Disability (LEND) interdisciplinary training program.

Research areas of emphasis include sensorimotor processes and cognitive abilities in autism spectrum disorder (ASD) structural and anatomical brain differences associated with ASD gender differences in ASD and social language and cognitive development in infants and young children.

The fellowship offers a range of clinical experiences including participation on interdisciplinary diagnostic teams developmental behavioral therapy clinics Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) feeding teams telemedicine-based evaluation and treatment social skills groups for girls craniofacial clinics developmental disability screenings applied behavior analysis (ABA) and cleft lip and palate clinics. The program also supports professional development through completion of supervised practice hours and preparation for licensure. Qualified fellows may have opportunities to provide teaching and supervision to graduate student trainees and contribute to the development and implementation of interdisciplinary training activities alongside MCH core faculty.

Job Description:

Job Duties Outlined:

Research Overview: Design and conduct experiments and interpret data under the mentorship of the Principal Investigator (PI).

  • Assist with development of grant proposals and scientific manuscripts.
  • Maintain a current Laboratory Notebook documenting all calculations work experiments and other pertinent research information.
  • Participate in clinical research outreach and advocacy activities.
  • Participate in an interdisciplinary course with otherLENDtrainees.

Expectations: The Postdoc will be expected to complete research projects under the guidance of the faculty mentor record and interpret the results of their experiments in an (electronic) laboratory notebook prepare publication-quality manuscripts (including figures and tables) and publish in peer-reviewed literature.

  • Read literature articles develop new ideas and assimilate the information into his/her project design/interpretation.
  • Dissemination of studies: Interact on a regular basis with their PI faculty mentor and members of the laboratory to discuss experimental design and interpretation of results.
  • Present research aims and findings at department seminars and at local and national scientific meetings. Write and publish their results as first author in abstracts manuscripts and posters.

Compliance: Attend and maintain compliance on all orientation and training sessions designated by the University and the Department understand and follow IACUC and biosafety protocols and attend departmental seminars and regular lab meetings.

Required Qualifications:

Education: Ph.D. or Psy. D. in clinical child psychology pediatric psychology school psychology applied behavior analysis or other related disciplines. All requirements for Ph.D. or Psy.D. prior to starting the post-doctoral fellowship (e.g. dissertation).

This position requires a formal degree in the cited discipline area(s) to ensure that candidates have advanced knowledge analytical skills and professional competencies necessary to perform the duties of the position. The level of degree is commonly recognized as the standard qualification for similar roles in the public and private sector ensuring that the university remains competitive with industry aligned practices enhances collaboration with external partners and supports the delivery of services and programs that meet professional and market-driven expectations.

Certification/License: Must be eligible for licensure or temporary licensure in the state of Kansas (see Qualifications:

Compensation Statement:

The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to education experience and training qualifications relative to the requirements of the position and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
