Pay: $46703 - $71948/year depending on education and experience
FTE: 100%

Job Summary:
The prekindergarten (pre-K) Long-Term Substitute Teacher is responsible for temporarily supporting a pre-K classroom August 2025 through June 2026. This position partners with a co-teacher to deliver exceptional experiences for prekindergarten students aged 4 to 5. The role creates and maintains a nurturing inclusive classroom environment that supports students academic social-emotional and character development.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Designs and delivers developmentally appropriate cross-disciplinary learning experiences for pre-K students.
- Plans and implements engaging developmentally appropriate early childhood curriculum with a strong emphasis on early literacy grounded in constructivist theory and best practices such as Reggio Emilia and the Project Approach.
- Incorporates experiential learning opportunities and adapt instructional strategies to support the needs of diverse learners.
- Utilizes a variety of assessment methods to monitor student growth and inform instructional decisions.
- Cultivates a nurturing and inclusive classroom environment that promotes academic social-emotional and character development.
- Actively engages in the life of the school and contributes to community-wide events and programs.
- Upholds and models the mission values and strategic priorities of STS.
- Demonstrates respect for diverse perspectives and a commitment to equity and inclusion.
- Communicates effectively and professionally with students families and colleagues.
- Collaborates across departments and participates in team meetings to support a cohesive pre-K through eighth grade experience.
- Maintains confidentiality and handles sensitive information with discretion.
- Adheres to school policies and procedures and performs other duties as assigned by the Director of the Early Learning Center.
Qualifications
Requirements and Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in early childhood education or a related field; masters degree or teaching certification preferred.
- 3 years of experience in an early childhood classroom setting
- Deep understanding of child development and best practices in early childhood education.
- Familiarity with constructivist learning approaches; experience with Reggio Emilia or the Project Approach preferred.
- Ability to design and implement engaging developmentally appropriate learning experiences.
- Demonstrated strength in classroom management and behavior guidance grounded in empathy and respect.
- Experience incorporating positive behavior strategies and social-emotional learning into daily practice.
- Capability to actively supervise children indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Willingness to meet Washington State Department of Children Youth and Families (DCYF) licensing requirements.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and engage in physical aspects of the role (e.g. crouching bending sitting on the floor.)
- Demonstrated cultural competency and ability to work with diverse individuals and groups.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a collaborative flexible and growth-oriented mindset.
- Proficiency with basic technology tools and a willingness to learn school-specific systems.
- Commitment to the mission vision and values of STS.
