In School Suspension

Mt. Blue High School

JobGoal(s): The In-School Suspension (ISS) Monitor is responsible for supervising high school students assigned to in-school suspension. The monitor ensures that students remain on task with their academic work in a structured respectful and distraction-free environment while promoting positive behavior and accountability.

Qualifications

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to remain calm fair and consistent in managing student behavior.
  • Familiarity with school discipline procedures and restorative practices is a plus.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.

Certifications

  • Maine DOE Certification - Ed Tech III
Performance Responsibilities
  • Supervise and monitor students assigned to ISS throughout the school day.
  • Maintain a quiet structured and respectful environment conducive to learning.
  • Distribute and collect academic assignments provided by classroom teachers.
  • Track student attendance compliance and completion of work while in ISS.
  • Communicate regularly with administrators teachers counselors and parents regarding student progress and behavior.
  • Enforce school rules behavioral expectations and disciplinary guidelines.
  • Support students in reflecting on their behavior and choices encouraging accountability and improvement.
  • Report incidents or concerns to school administration as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation.
  • Ensure the physical and emotional safety of all students in the ISS room.

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associates or bachelors degree preferred.

Experience

  • Experience working with adolescents in an educational or behavioral setting preferred.

Travel Requirements
  • Travel between schools or district buildingsmay be required at times

Reports To:Building Principal

Terms of Employment: As determined annually by the District.

Evaluation:Completed annually by Principal or their designee.

FLSA Status:Non-exempt
