Job Description

Homeless Social Worker Support (Part-Time)

Job Description

General Statement of Job:

The Homeless Social Worker is a vital member of our student services team. This person is responsible for establishing and maintaining connections with individuals experiencing homelessness. This role is focused on developing trust providing support and facilitating access to resources that can help individuals transition out of homelessness. The person will collaborate with community partners social service agencies and local government to create a comprehensive network of support for those in need.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Outreach and Engagement:
    • Conduct regular outreach to identify and build relationships with individuals experiencing homelessness.
    • Collaborate with local shelters food banks and service providers to identify and reach out to homeless individuals in various settings.
  2. Needs Assessment:
    • Conduct thorough assessments to understand the unique needs and challenges of each individual.
    • Work closely with clients to develop personalized plans that address immediate concerns and long-term goals.
  3. Resource Navigation:
    • Assist individuals in accessing available resources such as shelters food assistance healthcare mental health services and substance abuse treatment.
    • Provide guidance on navigating social service systems and advocate for clients within those systems.
  4. Coordination with Service Providers:
    • Collaborate with local social service agencies healthcare providers employment services and educational institutions to create a seamless support network.
    • Facilitate communication and coordination between different service providers to ensure holistic care.

  1. Empowerment and Skill-Building:
    • Empower individuals experiencing homelessness by providing tools resources and information to help them regain independence.
    • Offer guidance on developing life skills budgeting and accessing educational and vocational opportunities.
  2. Data Management:
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of client interactions progress and referrals.
    • Compile data for reporting purposes and program evaluation.

Minimum Training and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree in social work psychology counseling or a related field.
  • Previous experience working with homeless populations or in a community outreach capacity.
  • Knowledge of local resources and services available to individuals experiencing homelessness.

Minimum Qualifications or Standards Required to perform Essential Job Functions:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders including government agencies non-profit organizations and community members.
  • Compassion empathy and a commitment to advocating for the rights and well-being of individuals experiencing homelessness.

Other Requirements:

  • Maintain an acceptable attendance record and be punctual.
  • Understanding of test data and its instructional implications.
  • Understanding and training in test modifications Maintain confidentiality.
