Role Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Data Science Manager with strong leadership and technical expertise in PySpark big data frameworks and machine learning. This individual will lead a cross-functional team of data engineers and data scientists to build scalable data pipelines advanced analytics solutions and impactful models that support Picarros scientific and operational goals.

Responsibilities:

• Lead and mentor a team of data engineers and data scientists working on production-scale data solutions.
• Design and implement scalable ETL/ELT pipelines using PySpark Spark SQL and other big data tools.
• Drive the development of machine learning models for scientific data analysis anomaly detection and predictive insights.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including software engineering firmware hardware and product teams to integrate data-driven features into products and services.
• Own the architecture of the data platform including data lakes data warehouses and real-time data processing.
• Ensure high data quality governance and reproducibility across all pipelines and models.
• Translate scientific research and business requirements into actionable data solutions.
• Evaluate and introduce emerging tools and techniques to improve performance and reliability.

Qualifications:

• Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science Data Science Engineering or a related field. PhD is a plus.
• 8 years of experience in data engineering or data science roles with at least 2 years in a technical leadership or management role.
• Strong proficiency in PySpark Spark SQL and distributed computing.
• Experience building scalable data pipelines with cloud-based tools (AWS/GCP/Azure).
• Solid understanding of ML frameworks (e.g. scikit-learn TensorFlow PyTorch) and model deployment workflows.
• Proven experience leading data projects from ideation to production.
• Familiarity with DevOps practices CI/CD for data and containerization (Docker/Kubernetes).
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience working with scientific or sensor-based datasets is a strong plus.
• Strong project management and people management skills with a proven ability to lead and collaborate with cross-functional teams across multiple geographies.

Nice to Have:

• Domain experience in environmental science instrumentation or physics-based modeling.
• Experience with time-series data and anomaly detection.
• Exposure to data visualization tools like Power BI Tableau or custom dashboards using Plotly/Streamlit.
