Title: Graduate Research Assistant (Hawaii Family Engagement Center)

Position Number: 0000GA11

Hiring Unit: College of Education Center on Disability Studies

Location: Manoa

Temporary/Permanent: Temporary

Other Conditions: Extramural funds. To begin approximately mid-August 2025 or soon thereafter. Renewal of appointment is contingent upon availability of funds program/operational needs and satisfactory performance.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist project implementation under the direction of the Hawaii Family Engagement Center (HFEC) Principal Investigator Project Coordinator and Project Staff.
  • Assist in coordinating developing and providing statewide training programs that build the capacity of the state education agency school-level staff and personnel families and community-based organizations to engage in effective partnerships that support student achievement and school improvement.
  • Develops writes and distributes the projects quarterly newsletter including gathering content coordinating with team members and stakeholders editing for clarity and accuracy and ensuring timely dissemination to relevant audiences.
  • Assist with developing content coordinating and maintaining project social media accounts and website presence.
  • Support planning and event coordination of in-person and/or virtual conferences stakeholder meetings and training (including light lifting).
  • Support the development and facilitation of online family engagement in education training content for educators and families.
  • Assist with the collection analysis and evaluation of project data.
  • Research and summarize information from documents and academic literature on family engagement for conducting research generating training and technical assistance products and grant writing.
  • Document project activities for the purposes of tracking project progress and federal project reporting.
  • Manage project contacts to aid project information dissemination.
  • Participate in professional development activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Must be a degree-seeking graduate student (Masters or PhD) admitted to or registered in a graduate program at UH Manoa.
  2. Must be in good academic standing and maintain a GPA of 3.0 or above and maintain full-time enrollment.
  3. Strong interpersonal skills; ability to collaborate with others.
  4. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  5. Ability to edit written products such as articles newsletters web posts training manuals tool kits and lesson plans.
  6. Experience in writing research reports using qualitative/quantitative data.
  7. Proficiency in the following applications: Zoom Google Workspace Adobe Acrobat Twitter Facebook Instagram.
  8. Organizational skills that include attention to detail and ability to self-initiate/motivate.
  9. Ability to work with minimum supervision in an occasionally fast-paced office or field environment as part of a team.
  10. Availability to work outside of the normal working hours including evening weekends and holidays as needed in support of community outreach and project programming.
  11. Ability to travel independently to various geographical locations in a timely manner. Requirement may be fulfilled by a valid Hawaii Drivers license (Class 3) comparable drivers license or other means of transportation which meets position needs.
  12. Ability to perform light physical work including moving or lifting of items such as but not limited to boxes files and papers.

Desirable Qualifications

  1. Degree and/or academic background in education social work sociology or psychology.
  2. Experience interest in or sensitivity working with vulnerable student or family populations.
  3. Demonstrated experience in teaching training or leading workshops and web seminars; or providing support to schools educators parents and community organizations on family engagement in education policies and practices.
