SUMMARY: The successful candidate will be responsible for providing efficient and safe transportation for patients requiring medical services at local or out of the area facilities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
- Operate the ambulance/back-up unit at a satisfactory level as needed to provide safe and efficient transportation for patients requiring medical services at local or out of the area facilities.
- Acquire a comprehensive understanding of the main geographical area of operations and surrounding areas including all housing projects rural homes receiving hospitals businesses etc.
- Demonstrate the ability to safely operate the ambulance/back-up unit in all types of weather terrain and road conditions.
- Identify the location of all equipment on the ambulance and be responsible for conducting and completing an ambulance check sheet.
- Clean and decontaminate the ambulance after each run and ensure that each ambulance/back-up run is appropriately documented.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient and hospital matters and use proper channels of communication/chain of command.
- Maintain good time and attendance records participate in staff meetings and projects and maintain a positive attitude toward position and co-workers.
- Work all shifts assigned which may include weekends nights and holidays and be flexible with working schedules subject to frequent interruptions.
- Work as a team member with flexibility personal integrity and the ability to work effectively with all patients family members co-workers public etc.
- Be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- Must possess a High School Diploma or General Education Degree (G.E.D.).
CERTIFICATES REGISTRATIONS and/or LICENSE:
- Must have a valid drivers license and be insurable under CTCHEC insurance policy.
- Must be willing to receive the EMT certification within 1 year of hire.
- Must be AHA CPR certified (or willing to obtain within 60 days of employment)
- Must pass a pre-employment background check physical and drug screen.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Demonstrate the ability to see hear and lift heavy patients and equipment (minimum of 50 lbs.) to assure that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
- Demonstrate the ability to sit stand bend lift and move throughout the shift and deal tactfully with patients family members personnel the public etc.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Be potentially subject to hostile and emotionally upset patients family members personnel and visitors and work beyond normal working hours on weekends and holidays and in other positions temporarily when necessary.
- Be potentially subject to personal injury exposure to infectious waste disease conditions including HIV/AIDS Hepatitis viruses etc. and harsh weather conditions and extreme changes from hot to cold and vice versa.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS and/or ABILITIES:
- Familiarity with the main geographical area of operations and surrounding areas
- Ability to safely operate the ambulance/back-up unit in all types of weather terrain and road conditions
- Understanding of the importance of maintaining confidentiality of patient and hospital matters
- Knowledge of proper communication channels and chain of command
