Internal Posting-Only temporary or permanent North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) employees working in a temporary permanent full-time permanent part-time probationary trainee or time-limited position or layoff candidate with the NC Department of Transportation eligible for RIF priority reemployment consideration as described by General Statute (GS) 126 (State Personnel Act) may apply.
This position will function as a Transportation Supervisor I within the Carteret County Maintenance Unit. The primary purpose of this position will be to plan coordinate direct and supervise all force account construction road operations in Carteret County. This includes clearing grubbing grading drainage base and paving by state forces and fully operated equipment contractors. Employee will be expected to carry out the NCDOT Safety Program and NC VIP (Valuing Individual Performance) train new employees maintain employee time complete FR-1101 Job Reports and other record keeping as required Employee will be expected to use a computer for documentation calculations figuring grades and elevations and use of DOT programs such as VIP SAP CARS AMS etc. Employee in this position will supervise driver/truck hauling operations in Carteret County. Workers will be exposed to all types of weather conditions and expected to work on uneven surfaces and slopes. This position is subject to emergency callback work night work weekend work work in adverse weather and other extreme circumstances.

The employee will need the ability to supervise work crews and to promote a safe work environment. The ability to maintain working knowledge of all operating procedures is needed. The employee will be expected to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Expected to maintain effective working relations with other employees and the general public. Safety toe footwear will be needed. Must operate a motor vehicle and have a valid North Carolina Class A Commercial Drivers License with Tanker (N) endorsement. Either possession of a current Commercial Drivers License on the date of hire OR the North Carolina Commercial Drivers License must be obtained through completion of on-the-job training and all requirements mandated by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (Federal Registry 49 CFR 383) within 360 days of the date of -employment drug testing is required for this position. As a condition of employment a release form (ALCDRG-01) and a background statement (ALCDRG-06) must be completed and signed allowing the NCDOT to check with previous employers for the past three years about controlled substances and alcohol testing.

High school or General Educational Development diploma and six years of directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and directly related experience. Experience must be related to functional area of the work that the position will supervise.
