ABOUT THE POSITION
The Arts of the Americas department seeks a curatorial fellow to join a dynamic team of four curators actively engaged in planning a full-scale reinstallation of the Arts of the Americas collection in the museums Rice Building. The project is scheduled to begin phased implementation in mid-2027 with exhibition design and object research already underway. During the 18-month fellowship the Luce Curatorial Fellow would assist and participate in all aspects of the conceptualization organization and implementation of the reinstallation in its current phase.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Reinstallation Support: Under the direction of the chair the Luce Curatorial Fellow assists and participates in all aspects of the conceptualization organization and implementation of the reinstallation in its current phase. This includes: developing themes and object groupings; maintaining checklists; and conducting object research.
The Luce Curatorial Fellow collaborates closely with departmental colleagues involved in the reinstallation: curators the collection manager and two art handlers. Responsibilities also include helping liaise with the many stakeholders across the museum from Exhibition Design to Conservation to Interpretation.
Research and Writing: Assists with research and writing for the reinstallation including investigating ownership publication and exhibition histories for objects in the permanent collection and writing acquisition justifications and interpretive addition the Fellow would have the opportunity to compose website content including object descriptions artist biographies and blog posts.
Collection database and website support: Participates in departmental efforts to maintain object records and files update records and files with comprehensive information and publish records online.
Additional: The Luce Curatorial Fellow will attend and possibly present at the biannual Arts of the Americas Committee meetings. As appropriate supports the preparation of materials for advisory committee meetings.
The position will be fully embedded within the department and the Luce Curatorial Fellow will be expected to take part in weekly staff meetings and other activities as relevant and assist with other projects as assigned.
