Literacy Coach Expanded Learning Time Program*

The Opportunity:

The Fletcher-Maynard Academy seeks a dynamic culturally responsive literacy coach who is deeply grounded in evidence-based instructional practices and committed to advancing equity and excellence for all students. The ideal candidate builds strong trust-based partnerships with educators and administrators to support rigorous inclusive and data-informed literacy instruction. They bring deep knowledge of the science of reading and writing including effective practices for multilingual learners students with disabilities and students experiencing reading difficulties. The coach will skillfully lead collaborative planning facilitate high-impact professional learning and model effective instructional practices that accelerate student growth and close opportunity gaps. A successful candidate will be a reflective practitioner a skilled facilitator of adult learning and a passionate advocate for student success.

The Literacy Coach will:

  • Work with classroom teachers and instructional providers in PreK to 5th grade to support their ongoing professional growth and learning both as individuals and as members of grade-level teams.
  • Work directly with the schools leadership team to support implementation of multi-tiered systems of support data analysis and to coordinate core instruction and intervention services.
  • Support implementation of ELA/Literacy curriculum and practices reinforcing the departments vision within the school community.
  • Oversee and organize district and state assessments including scheduling training (as needed) administration data analysis and reporting.
  • Actively participate on school leadership teams (data team literacy team ILT grade-level teams).
  • In coordination with building administration plan and facilitate professional learning to build teacher capacity and effectiveness.
  • Meet regularly with building administration to establish and maintain a shared vision for coaching collaboration and implementation of an effective literacy framework/program.
  • Actively participate in curriculum development and alignment.
  • Meet monthly with literacy coaches across the district to share and receive strategies and resources related to district goals and initiatives.
  • Guide the purchasing distribution organization and use of books and materials for classrooms and professional development.
  • Provide ongoing information and resources to caregivers to support them in understanding the academic strengths and needs of their child interpreting assessment results and ways to support continued learning at home.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

*Please note that the Expanded Learning Time program requires an 8 hour and 25 minute workday for this position.

Your Skill Set:

As the incoming Building Literacy Coach you will possess many though perhaps not all of the following characteristics and qualifications:

  • At least 5 years of successful teaching experience in Literacy in grades JK-5 preferably in an urban multicultural setting.
  • Proven coaching/leadership capacity and ability to work cooperatively with educators and caregivers.
  • Experience analyzing and using a wide variety of data to meet students needs.
  • A demonstrated commitment to social justice and deep knowledge of culturally and linguistically sustaining practices.
  • Deep knowledge of the MA English Language Arts and Literacy Framework
  • Bachelors degree required Masters Degree preferred
  • Massachusetts Teacher Certification/Licensure in Reading required
