This vacancy is located in the Physical SecuritySection in the Department of Public Safety and Corrections/Office of State Police located in East Baton Rouge Parish.
The Louisiana Department of Public Safety (DPS) Physical Security section is committed to maintaining a secure environment across a wide range of state facilities with a primary focus on protecting vital locations such as the State Police Barracks State Police Headquarters and other high-priority state buildings. The section plays a crucial role in safeguarding the infrastructure that supports law enforcement operations ensuring that both personnel and assets are protected from potential threats or breaches. Their responsibilities extend beyond just securing physical spaces; they are also responsible for overseeing access control systems monitoring surveillance equipment and coordinating emergency response protocols to maintain a high level of security at all addition to these duties DPS Physical Security officers are tasked with conducting regular security assessments and audits identifying vulnerabilities and implementing necessary improvements to enhance security measures. By maintaining a constant and vigilant presence the Physical Security section ensures that critical operations continue without disruption providing peace of mind for those who work within these facilities and the public they serve.
The incumbent is responsible for the management of the administrative functions of the DPS Police- Physical Security. The functions include recordkeeping property control inventory evidence fleet management and all other administrative duties.
Two years of the required experience for the following minimum qualifications must have been in a position equivalent or higher in scope of responsibility to a DPS Police Sergeant in State service:
Five years of experience as a DPS Police Officer; OR
Six years of law enforcement experience as a POST-certified peace officer with the powers of arrest.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must be at least 21 years of age.
Possession of a current drivers license.
Possession of an active Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification.
An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified by the hiring agency until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.

Job Duties:
Manages the administrative functions of the section.
Directs inspects and reviews all administrative activities of subordinate officers.
Manages the sections physical evidence function and serves as its evidence custodian.
Ensures evidence is kept secure and that the chain of custody is maintained. Works with the court system to deliver evidence for trail and dispose of evidence properly after receiving a disposal order from the court.
Completes inventory of evidence as required by policy.
Manages the sections video evidence function.
Reviews videos ensures compliance with video review policy and provides video evidence to court and other law enforcement agencies.
Manages the sections property control function and serves as the section property custodian.
Ensures that items are assigned and transferred properly in the LAGOV property portal. Maintains the sections assigned property.
Completes annual inventory.
Manages scheduling of overtime assignments billing of outside agencies and interagency transfers for extra duty work.
Prepares various daily weekly and annual reports and statistics.
Manages the risk management functions of the section. These include reviewing and compiling first report of injury reports crash reports building inspections key control and other risk management requirements.
Manages training functions of the section. This includes registering officers for training conducting regular training and seeking out new training that would benefit the section.
Serves as the officer on charge during large-scale events such as protest foot races Mardi Gras dignitary protectiondetails etc.
Performs all other duties as assigned.The incumbent serves as the duty commander of the section and can assume the duties of the commander during his absence.
The incumbent is expected to exercise independent judgment and initiative to determine solutions to complex problems.
The incumbent is commissioned by the Department of Public Safety and has statewide authority to enforce the law make arrests issue citations investigate crimes and uses the ability regularly in the course of their duties.
