SUBJECT: CAFETERIA MEO DELIVERY DRIVER
SCHOOL: SYSTEMWIDE WORCESTER PUBLIC SCHOOLS
REPORTS TO: COORDINATOR OF CULINARY OPERATIONS
POSITION OVERVIEW:This Cafeteria MEO Driver position requires the driver to practice safe driving load and unload food (both hot and cold) as well as operate a manual lift gate (approximately 75 lbs.). The driver will also be responsible for the proper storage of food at the correct addition to driving duties the driver will assist with other tasks when not driving including food production and organizing storage areas.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: (to be included along with other responsibilities)
Driving & Delivery:- Safely operate a 29-foot box truck with a built-in refrigerator to deliver items to various schools in the district.
- Follow established routes to deliver food items according to schedule. Ensure timely and accurate delivery to each school.
- Ensure the truck is properly loaded and food is stored at correct temperatures during transportation. Follow food safety protocols to maintain the quality and safety of the delivered goods.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the truck ensuring it is safe clean and ready for operation.
- Drive in compliance with all traffic laws and regulations adhering to safe driving practices.
- Participate in regular safety driving training and classes to stay up-to-date on best practices and regulations for operating large vehicles.
Loading & Unloading:- Load and unload ready-made hot and cold food produce and other supplies as instructed.
- Operate a manual lift gate (approximately 75 lbs) to assist with loading and unloading items.
- Confirm that the correct amount of food and supplies are loaded for each stop following delivery instructions from the quadrant coordinator.
Handling Deliveries:- Only pick up items from schools when clear instructions are provided by the quadrant coordinator. Do not collect items from schools without prior authorization.
- Ensure that food produce and other items are stored at proper temperatures to maintain food safety.
Assisting with Other Duties:- When not driving assist with other tasks such as food production organizing storage areas and any other duties as assigned by the quadrant coordinator or culinary supervisor.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:- Previous experience driving large vehicles (box trucks or similar).
- A valid drivers license with a clean driving record. Must be able to drive a 29-foot box truck safely and efficiently.
- Willingness to participate in regular safety driving training and classes.
- Ability to operate a manual lift gate (up to 75 lbs.) and lift and move heavy items as needed.
- Ability to be on your feet for long periods and work in a physically demanding environment.
- Basic understanding of food safety and the importance of maintaining proper temperatures for food during transportation. (Food safety training will be provided.)
- Strong organizational skills to ensure the correct loading and unloading of items.
- Clear communication with the quadrant coordinator and other staff members is essential.
- Ability to assist with other duties when not driving including food production and assisting with organizing storage areas.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:- A valid Class C CDL drivers license
- Ability to speak Albanian Arabic Nepali Portuguese Spanish Vietnamese or an African Language.
WORK YEAR: This is a 52 week work year 40 hours per week
WORK DAY: Monday through Friday starting as early as 6:00 A.M.
SALARY: This position is represented by the NAGE R1-16 Cafeteria Workers union and the salary is determined by the appropriate step on the Cafeteria MEO Driver salary schedule.
