Accounting Clerk

Reports to: Controller Manager of Shared Services
Location: Jacksonville FL Mandarin area
Full Time
FLSA: Hourly Non-Exempt
GENERAL SUMMARY:The Accounting Clerk will provide direct accounting support to the Fiscal Department including Shared Services. The Shared Services departments purpose is to decrease the administrative burden on our entities. Shared Services is a cost-effective process of accounting information that supports streamlined processes that are consistently executed from one period to the next as well as delivers accurate and reliable accounting information with visibility and transparency.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Responds to specific and routine work assignments necessitating great attention to detail priority and deadlines. Provides regular status updates on projects and estimated timelines for completion to the Director.
  • Works collaboratively and effectively with the Fiscal Office the Manager of Shared Services and the staff in a respectful team environment in the pursuit of the Churchs mission as led by the Bishop of the Diocese of St. Augustine.
  • Creates neat and professional correspondences as assigned; free from error and with good grammar and proper English; proofreads and edits materials; duplicates and distributes materials as necessary.
  • Provides research data entry into multiple databases accurate and timely filing; organizes and maintains a neat and efficient filing system and creates updates and maintains accurate databases electronic files and other records and information.
  • Prepares and submits deposits information to DLS (Fiscal); keys in deposit summary information to ParishSOFT deposits for review by accountant (Shared Services).
  • Verifies approval of invoices tabs and enters invoices in ParishSOFT for review by accountant; prints checks enters check number on tab provides to Shared Services Manager for review.
  • Prepares Shared Services weekly confirmation package.
  • Participates in the process of depositing checks received in the DOSA Fiscal Office.
  • Updates and analyzes the Parish Building Fund spreadsheet.
  • Handles processing of non-parochial collections remitted to DOSA by the parishes.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
  • The ability to respect promote accommodate and not be in conflict with the mission moral and social teachings doctrines and laws of the Roman Catholic faith.
  • Minimum of a high school diploma with at least 2 years experience in an office setting; administrative and bookkeeping experience preferred.
  • Must maintain a high level of attention to detail accuracy and efficiency; a person with superior organizational skills.
  • Must have the ability and experience to work in a respectful team environment with other personnel and the ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with clergy employees and outside contacts.
  • Must maintain confidentiality and sensitive matters necessitating a high degree of discretion.
  • Experience in researching data collection and organizing and preparing for analysis in narrative tabular and graphic form is preferred.
  • Knowledge and skills in use of technology including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted account and recordkeeping principles and practices.
  • Must be proficient in English grammar with excellent research interpretive writing proofreading and editing skills.
  • Knowledge of religious/ecclesial terminology and protocol is strongly preferred.
  • Must maintain a valid drivers license.
  • Must successfully pass the required criminal background check prior to employment and every five years.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read analyze and interpret general business periodicals professional journals technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers clients vendors employees and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add subtract multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems collect data establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
