BACKGROUND


The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Athletics Department had a banner year in 2024-25. With the most significant changes within the intercollegiate athletics landscape our department continues to be strategic and innovative in our overall approach as it relates to professional opportunities.


SUMMARY

We are seeking an energetic collaborative skilled individual who wants to be developed. This position is a fellowship from the McLendon Foundation. The McLendon Fellow (Coordinator for Athletics Initiatives) will work closely with multiple areas of the Nebraska Athletics Department including Academics Abbott Life Skills Program Marketing and Huskers Athletic Fund.

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Award Winning Marketing department are always focused on the next generation of aspiring sports business professionals. Through hours worked in-office and/or at home athletics events the McLendon Fellow / Coordinator of Athletics Initiatives will receive a comprehensive overview of aspects of collegiate sports marketing including gameday operations ticket and in-game promotions event planning and others. Assist with the coordination and implementation of marketing promotional efforts for Nebraska spring sports.

The Huskers Athletic Fund is the fundraising arm for Nebraska Athletics. Over the course of 2024-25 year theyve set records in dollars raised and increased the overall number of donors which is now over 18000. With a restructure to expand the team for some exciting projects and initiatives that are forthcoming there will be a unique opportunity for the McLendon Fellow / Coordinator of Athletics Initiatives to gain experiences preparing them for the future of college athletics.


RESPONSIBILITIES


Academics / Abbott Life Skills Responsibilities


  • Assist with coordination of major life skills events for student-athletes.
  • Assist with record-keeping of all outreach activities to aid in determining citizenship recognition.
  • Assist in writing life skills and human-interest stories on as assigned.
  • Assist with the recruitment of prospective student-athletes during on-campus visits
  • Coordination of select life skills community service initiatives
  • Attend weekly Life Skills staff meetings.
  • Assist with recruiting events as assigned.

People and Culture

  • Assist with planning and execution of annual student-athlete leadership summit and other key events.
  • Assist in the management of our student-athlete affinity groups working closely with the Department of Sports Psychology.
  • Collaborate with Creative & Emerging media for awareness campaigns on a monthly basis.
  • Attend monthly Nebraska Athletics Inclusion Council and Husker JEDI Team meetings.
  • Assist in hosting Next Steps stadium and campus tours exposing diverse youth groups to higher education while receiving motivational messages from various presenters.
  • Assist with the coordination and monitoring of annual Big Ten Advisory Commission surveys.
  • Provide support for the Red-Carpet Experience.

Marketing

  • Attend external and marketing team meetings to enhance overall knowledge of college athletics.
  • Assist with on court / on field promotions including games giveaways and trivia as directed by the Associate AD Marketing and Fan Experience
  • Opportunity to interact with other key areas such as Licensing and Multimedia Rights partner Playfly.

Huskers Athletic Fund

  • Attending key donor events including pregame sporting events assisting in all areas as assigned.
  • Working closely with the Assistant Director of the N Club to engage with letter winners from all sports.
  • Assisting with planning around the universitys day of giving Glow Big Red
  • Stewardship opportunities to show donor appreciation
