Job Duties
The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services Division of Commodity Services has an exciting career opportunity for an Equipment Maintenance Technician/Peanut Inspector. This position helps service and maintain peanut grading equipment; evaluates to ensure that specifications and tolerances are met; replaces or repairs parts as needed or instructed; prioritizes and responds to service calls; assists with maintaining an inventory of equipment electrical motors sizing screens peanut counters and other parts. Additionally this position will perform peanut inspection/sampling duties and will assist in the grinding room as needed. This position is physically demanding and requires overtime & irregular work hours during the week both day and night on weekends & holidays & may include shift work at the local peanut shelling mill which is sometimes overnight.
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge and experience as a mechanic machinist or installer and repairer of various types of equipment. Advanced skills in equipment repair and maintenance. Additionally knowledge of manufacturing production quality control or agricultural practices are beneficial particularly if related to the peanut industry; however if you have the ability to be trained on federal/state regulations and are able to meet the conditions of employment as noted below then this knowledge is not necessary as training will be provided. Must be proficient with personal computers to include Microsoft Office applications. Must have excellent customer service skills in order to communicate effectively (oral & written) with a diverse clientele including staff general public and industry officials. Must also be dependable and able to report to work as assigned. The demonstrated ability to read analyze interpret apply and explain complex USDA/State manuals; to organize daily work assignments; and to work with limited supervision. H.S. Diploma/GED required.
Additional Considerations
Related training certification or coursework along with additional work experience in a warehousing or agricultural environment or federal or state inspection program. Experience working on peanut grading equipment is also preferred. An equivalent combination of training & experience indicating possession of the preceding knowledge and abilities may substitute for this education and experience.
