About A Wider Circle

The mission of A Wider Circle is to advance equity in the greater Washington DC region by fostering the exchange of goods skills and connections from neighbor to neighbor and by engaging in advocacy to address the root causes of poverty. Our Essential Support Program provides individuals and families with furniture clothing and other basic items to help meet immediate needs and support long-term stability.

Job Summary

We are seeking a dynamic hands-on Senior Manager to help lead our Essential Support department. This is an on-site position and the schedule will be Tuesday-Saturday 8:30am-5:30pm. This person will work in close partnership with the Director to supervise some staff and interns oversee client services and manage key program initiatives. The ideal candidate will bring strong people management experience a commitment to social and economic justice and a drive for operational excellence and high-quality direct service.

This is a high-impact full-time role for someone ready to jump in lead with empathy and keep daily operations running smoothly in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

Staff & Volunteer Supervision

  • Provide day-to-day supervision guidance and support to Essential Support staff interns and volunteers
  • Manage recruitment onboarding and/or scheduling of staff interns and/or volunteers
  • Support staff in navigating challenging client situations with empathy and professionalism offering guidance on how to best meet the complex needs of our clients

Program Operations & Client Services

  • Manage daily operations of the furniture and clothing distribution programs
  • Assign and oversee daily staff responsibilities to ensure effective coverage of all client service areas including phone email and in-person interactions
  • Serve in a Floor Manager role at least one day per week overseeing client service delivery for the furniture distribution program
  • Collaborate with the Director of Essential Support to continuously assess and improve the client experience
  • Help lead the team in ensuring accurate and timely documentation and record-keeping
  • Manage scheduling and coordination of group visits and mobile clothing giveaways within the clothing distribution program collaborating closely with community partners.
  • Serve as Manager on Duty (MOD) as needed in the absence of the Manager of Operations

  • Program Leadership
  • Partner with the Director of Essential Support to develop set and monitor program goals such as call volume management improving client attendance and coordinating special projects
  • Coordinate and collaborate with other departments to ensure all operations run smoothly throughout the day (i.e. In Kind Donations Administrative Operations Volunteer etc.)

Required Qualifications

  • At least 2 years of relevant professional experience including 1 year of people or project management
  • Associates degree
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; able to motivate and manage teams
  • Demonstrated ability to juggle multiple priorities and lead through ambiguity
  • Experience working directly with individuals experiencing poverty
  • Comfort with technology: familiarity with Google Suite (e.g. Gmail Google Calendar Google Sheets) and ability to quickly learn CRM systems

Preferred education and experience

  • Bachelors Degree
  • Experience working with individuals and families living in poverty
  • Experience working with client management and scheduling systems (e.g. Apricot Acuity)
  • Bilingual in Spanish is a plus

Work authorization/security clearance requirements

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States

Work environment

The Senior Manager Essential Support will work in an office located in a renovated warehouse environment.

Physical demands

Must be able to move around a warehouse environment for extended periods lift up to 20 lbs occasionally and work in variable temperature conditions.
