REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:- Graduation from high school or GED equivalent.
- Be a minimum of 21 years of age by hire date.
- Possession of an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Certification or higher by date of application.
- A copy must be attached to your application.
- Possession of a Firefighter 1 certification from IFSAC/NFPA/DPSST/Pro Board or any state or nationally accredited certifying body by date of application.

- Successfully complete and pass the four-part National Testing Network (NTN) process- see more information in Supplemental Information section below.

- Six (6) Question Virtual Interview

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:- Successful completion of a background investigation to the satisfaction of the City.
- Meet the physical qualifications and pass medical and psychological exam and drug screen prior to appointment.
- Requires possession of a valid drivers license by date of hire. New employees establishing resident status in the State of Oregon must obtain an Oregon drivers license within 30 days of hire.
- Ability to maintain an acceptable driving record throughout employment.

Additionally pay differentials for advanced EMT certifications are available as follows:- Advanced 2%
- Intermediate 5%
- Paramedic 9.5%
Note:Additional details related to certification pay PERS or other additional pays can be found in thelabor agreement which will be effective through June 30 2026.

Essential Functions of the Position:
- Participates in the practice of firefighting skills in organized drills and enforces fire codes and other related laws; responds to hazardous material emergencies and performs mitigation activities.
- Operates ground monitors and power-driven machinery such as hydraulic and pneumatic rescue tools etc.
- Responds to emergency and non-emergency calls for assistance in:
- Administering emergency medical care/services.
- Laying and connecting hose lines operating nozzles and directing water streams.
- Carrying raising and climbing ladders.
- Entering burning buildings for fire and rescue operations.
- Using chemical extinguishers various hand and power tools and other equipment.
- Mitigating the effects of natural disasters affecting public safety.
- Ventilating buildings performing salvage/overhaul operations and clean-up.
- Checking the fire scene for point of origin and source of ignitions.
- Works as an integral part of a firefighting unit utilizing procedures and techniques as prescribed by the Department.
- Analyzes emergency situations quickly to detect natural gas leaks mitigate traffic hazards and detect signs of impending building collapse.
- Performs pre-fire surveys station tours public relations and public education activities within the school system and civic groups.
- Participates in the practice of firefighting skills in organized drills.
- Uses good written and communication skills to write reports and communicate effectively with others.
- Performs various cleaning and maintenance of stations apparatus equipment and grounds.
- The scope of assigned area will depend on departmental structure and is at the discretion of the Fire Chief.

- NTN is the service provided to conduct the FireTEAM exam and pre-recorded video interviews. NTN does not replace the Medford Fire Departments responsibility and decision making in the evaluation process.All applicants must take theFireTEAM exam complete the Public SafetySelf-Assessment (PSSA) personal history questionnaireand pre-recorded video interviews with theNational Testing Network (NTN)by the application closing date.1. - In person and virtual testing is available.
- Be sure to schedule in advance to ensure you complete the process by the deadline!
- Limited NTN testing spots are available at the White City Rogue Community College Table Rock campus.
- Other in-person sites include Coos Bay Brooks Portland and Klamath Falls.
- The total test time is approximately 2 hours.
- We will accept FireTEAM exam scores up to 12 months back from July 21 2025 however virtual interviews must be completed before those scores expire.

- This cost for this exam is $65.00; the City will reimburse the exam cost upon hire.
2. Personal History Questionnaire (PHQ)- Completion of the PHQ is required information is used during the background investigation.
2. Public Safety Self-Assessment (PSSA)- To avoid missing the deadline we recommend you dont delay in completing this part.
- There is no cost for this assessment.
- This assessment is scheduled on your own time and can be taken at home.
- There are two parts; part 1 takes approximately 45 minutes / part 2 takes approximately 1 and 1/2 hours.
3. Pre-recorded Video Interviews- Candidates will be asked six (6) interview questions via NTNs candidate portal.
- There is a maximum of three (3) minutes allocated to each response.
- Be prepared practice responses to common interview questions.
- Dress professionally as you would for an in-person interview.
- Choose a quiet well-lit room to avoid interruptions during the interview.
