The City of Medford is recruiting for seven Firefighter/EMT positions. We seek dedicated individuals to join our esteemed firefighting team at Medford Fire. REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  1. Graduation from high school or GED equivalent.
  2. Be a minimum of 21 years of age by hire date.
  3. Possession of an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Certification or higher by date of application.
    • A copy must be attached to your application.
  4. Possession of a Firefighter 1 certification from IFSAC/NFPA/DPSST/Pro Board or any state or nationally accredited certifying body by date of application.
    • A copy must be attached to your application.
  5. Successfully complete and pass the four-part National Testing Network (NTN) process- see more information in Supplemental Information section below.
    1. FireTEAM Exam
    2. Public Safety Self-Assessment (PSSA)
    3. Six (6) Question Virtual Interview
    4. NTN Personal History Questionnaire

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Successful completion of a background investigation to the satisfaction of the City.
  • Meet the physical qualifications and pass medical and psychological exam and drug screen prior to appointment.
  • Requires possession of a valid drivers license by date of hire. New employees establishing resident status in the State of Oregon must obtain an Oregon drivers license within 30 days of hire.
  • Ability to maintain an acceptable driving record throughout employment.

Additionally pay differentials for advanced EMT certifications are available as follows:
  • Advanced 2%
  • Intermediate 5%
  • Paramedic 9.5%

Note:Additional details related to certification pay PERS or other additional pays can be found in the
labor agreement which will be effective through June 30 2026.

NTN is the service provided to conduct the FireTEAM exam and pre-recorded video interviews. NTN does not replace the Medford Fire Departments responsibility and decision making in the evaluation process.



2. Personal History Questionnaire (PHQ)
  • Completion of the PHQ is required information is used during the background investigation.

2. Public Safety Self-Assessment (PSSA)
  • To avoid missing the deadline we recommend you dont delay in completing this part.
  • There is no cost for this assessment.
  • This assessment is scheduled on your own time and can be taken at home.
  • There are two parts; part 1 takes approximately 45 minutes / part 2 takes approximately 1 and 1/2 hours.

3. Pre-recorded Video Interviews

Selection procedures and timelines subject to change. Those selected must be able to provide proof of legal right to work in this country. Hiring will be subject to:
  • Criminal history background investigation
  • Favorable driving record
  • Physical examination
  • Psychological examination
  • Clear drug screen following federal law (which includes testing for cannabis)
