Job Goal:

Qualifications (minimum education licensure skills and/or experience):
- Current Certified Louisiana Registered Nurse and/or a current Certified Louisiana Practical Nurse
- Two or more years of experience in the practice of nursing.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Serve as an advocate for the child.
- Assess and evaluate the health and developmental status of pupils.
- Maintain a comprehensive health history and health appraisal record system.
- Interpret the health and developmental assessment to parents.
- Refer the pupil and his or her parents or guardian to appropriate community resources.
- Maintain communication with parents and all involved community practitioners and agencies.
- Assist in the control of communicable diseases through early detection exclusion and reporting.
- Check immunization status of each pupil and refer for insufficient level.
- Interpret medical and nursing findings appropriate to the students individual education plan
- Conduct in-service training and serve as a resource person.
- Help adolescents gain insight into such problems as school-age pregnancy sexually transmissible diseases and drug abuse.
- Participate in establishing or revising school district health policies.
- Set and maintain standards for emergency care.
- Serve as liaison between parents school and community in health matters.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Physical Demands:
- Lift and carry medical supplies equipment and emergency response kits.
- Assist with lifting or moving students with mobility challenges if necessary.
- Stand for extended periods during health screenings meetings and other activities.
- Bend down to attend to students or assess injuries.
Terms of Employment: 9 month
Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Boards policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel (Bulletin 130).
