Job Description

ABOUT THE POSITION


The County of Riverside seeks candidates to fill positions throughout Riverside County. A list of eligible candidates will be established to fill current and future vacancies.

The County of Riversides TLMA Transportation Department has an opportunity for a Truck Mechanic located in Riverside.

The Truck Mechanic will be tasked to perform a wide range of services on medium and heavy duty gas and diesel trucks and trailers. Responsibilities will include: servicing adjusting diagnosing and repairing mechanical defects.

Experience indifferentials starters alternators hydraulic and air brake systems clutches axles steering gears suspension components carburetors fuel injection systems cooling systems air conditioning systems electrical systems is required. Including mechanical experience withCompressed Natural Gas (CNG) vehicles.

The most competitive candidates will be experienced with: Microsoft Word Microsoft Excel CAT ET CUMMINS In-Site and Bendix software programs; knowledgeable of AssetWorks or other preventative maintenance software and able to maintain vehicle records in accordance with Department of Transportation (DOT) standards.

Basic Inspection of Terminals (BIT) program knowledge and/or welding/fabrication are highly desired.

The selected candidate may be required to supply their own basic tools to perform the essential functions of the Truck Mechanic position.

The anticipated work schedule is 4/10.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS


OPTION III
Experience: Four years in the repair and overhaul of heavy diesel and gasoline powered vehicles. (Completion of 144 hours of trade related courses from a recognized occupational training center vocational school or specialized industrial program equaling six months of the required full-time experience.)

Other Requirements

Possession of a valid California Driver License: Class Bwith tanker endorsement and ability to work in an environment withexposure to automotive/heavy equipment fluids/odors.

ALL OPTIONS
Knowledge Of
The principles of both gasoline and diesel internal combustion engines; the methods tools equipment and parts used in the repair and maintenance of heavy trucks; the operations and uses of diagnostic equipment.

Ability To
Diagnose the source of mechanical and electrical failures in heavy gasoline and diesel-powered trucks; read and understand shop manuals and mechanical diagrams; follow written and oral directions; perform work safely.

Department of Transportation
For those positions designated by the Department of Transportation (DOT) as safety-sensitive applicants are required to complete a DOT mandated alcohol and drug-screening. (A positive test or refusal to test during the past two years will disqualify an applicant from consideration for County employment). Reference checks from former DOT regulated employers are also required.

Applicants must submit a Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) driving record prior to hire.

Employees in safety-sensitive positions are subject to DOT alcohol/drug testing in the following situations: random reasonable suspicion/cause return-to-duty and post-accident.

Pre-Employment

All employment offers are contingent upon successful completion of both a pre-employment physical exam including a drug/alcohol test and a criminal background investigation which involves fingerprinting. (A felony or misdemeanor conviction may disqualify the applicant from County employment.)

Probationary Period

As an Approved Local Merit System all County of Riverside employees except those serving At Will are subject to the probationary period provisions as specified in the applicable Memorandum of Understanding County Resolution or Salary Ordinance. Temporary and Per Diem employees serve at the pleasure of the agency/department head.
