Job Description

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Director is responsible for assisting the Superintendent in organizing creating and implementing curriculum and instruction throughout Warwick Public Schools. The Director reports to the Superintendent. Responsibilities include the development implementation administration and evaluation of the district-wide curriculum instruction assessment and MTSS programs. Responsibilities also include aligning curricular standards student assessments and school/district goals to result in the highest achievement possible for all students.

Specific job responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Overall responsibility for planning creating and implementing curricula curricular materials and related instructional programs throughout Warwick Public Schools.
  • Evaluation of curriculum needs throughout the district and recommendation of new programs that are aligned with the District Strategic Plan.
  • Responsible for the curriculum development cycle and the identification of instructional leaders within content areas to serve on committees for the development of curriculum; supports curriculum development teams.
  • Overall support of the implementation of curriculum in the schools and the assessment piloting onboarding and purchasing of necessary resources for successful implementation.
  • Supports instruction/teaching and learning throughout the district. Assists the Superintendent in planning and providing professional development to support instructional best practices throughout the District.
  • Supports schools with the development and implementation of multi-tiered systems of support for academics including oversight of academic interventions.
  • Coordinates assessments in the K-12 curriculum. Evaluates current assessment programs and recommends or otherwise develops new or alternative assessments.
  • Assists all schools in implementing state and district assessment/evaluation/testing programs to assess curriculum and instruction to improve student performance and adequate yearly progress.
  • Collects and analyzes data from assessments and reports results to the Superintendent and School Committee and other related stakeholder groups.
  • Oversees the secondary school-based academic network in conjunction with Assistant Principals for Teaching and Learning Department Heads and Content Area Specialists
  • Responsible for the leadership and supervision/evaluation of the department staff
  • Attends School Committee Meetings
  • Helps run meetings for elementary itinerants and itinerant scheduling
  • Research best practices in the field of education and ensure that the district is in compliance with RIDE curricular requirements
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE POSITION:

  • Masters Degree with Concentration in School Administration.
  • Certification from the Rhode Island Department of Education for District Level Administrator - Curriculum Instruction and Assessment.
  • Strong background and a thorough knowledge of the Common Core Standards in ELA/Literacy and Mathematics/Numeracy as well as NGSS Science Standards; familiarity with the RI state standards for all content areas.
  • Experience in planning developing and implementing curriculum the scope of work/mapping and rigorous standards-based units of study; knowledge of Understanding by Design (UbD) helpful
  • Experience in best practices in instruction - workshop pedagogy differentiation universal design for learning blended learning project-based/service learning co-teaching literacy/numeracy across the content areas; student-centered instruction
  • Experience in overseeing the administration of state assessments; familiarity with the RI state assessments
  • Understanding the alignment between assessment and student outcomes and how to effectively utilize available data; experience in compiling and interpreting assessment data; using data to inform instruction and curriculum development
  • Knowledge and experience with multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS) particularly for academic support and intervention in literacy and numeracy.
  • Administrative experience in supervision and evaluation; familiarity with the RI evaluation model
  • Experience in planning and conducting professional development including embedded PD modeling and coaching; knowledge of best practices for adult learning
  • Strong organizational written and verbal communication; can-do attitude

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Doctorate in the relevant area

QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates will be judged on the basis of qualifications for the position. The person whose qualifications are considered to be the best among the candidates shall be appointed to the position. Among the qualifications to be considered are: previous experience in and outside the field of education educational background professional activities and involvement knowledge of educational issues and trends.
