Job Description:

The Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) has an opportunity in the Operations Division for an Electronics Section Supervisor.

This position is for the Central Section Supervisor and can be primarily located in Norfolk Grand Island or Kearney.

Under minimal supervision this position supervises a geographically dispersed team of three or more technicians in support of NDOTs Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) traffic signal and communication infrastructure. You will perform skilled technical work installing maintaining servicing and operating ITS and traffic signal equipment/devices.

Pay range is $25.061 - $37.591 per hour. The pay rate may be commensurate with education and/or experience within fiscal constraints if approved.



JOB DUTIES:

  • Lead and manage a team of electronics technicians to achieve team and division goals ensuring consistent application of policies procedures and standards.
  • Evaluate team performance against team and division goals to recommend personnel actions such as promotions discipline and separations. Identifies training needs for career development.
  • Perform or assist with advanced installation maintenance troubleshooting and service of ITS equipment traffic signals and communication networks.
  • Develop and implement preventative maintenance plans for ITS equipment traffic signals and communication networks. Assists with preventative maintenance.
  • Manage and maintain an adequate and strategic inventory of replacement parts.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of ITS assets including their location condition and configuration.
  • Monitor the condition and availability of NDOT ITS traffic signals and communication assets in their assigned area.
  • Conduct regional safety meetings and ensure that technicians follow safe work practices and are equipped with the necessary personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.



Requirements / Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:High school education or equivalent plus schooling/experience in electronics equal to six years. An FCC General Class Radio Operators license is preferred.


Preferred Qualifications:IMSA Signal Technician certification.


Other:

  • Valid Nebraska Operators License (Class O).

  • Working in adverse weather conditions and after normal working hours may be required.

  • Requires periodic overnight travel for team management training and regional assistance.

KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES:

Supervisory

  • Ability to effectively communicate with team members other supervisors and upper management.
  • Capability to identify problems evaluate options and implement solutions effectively.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks prioritize effectively and keep the team organized.
  • Ability to build relationships motivate team members and resolve conflicts.
  • Capability to make informed and timely decisions that benefit the team and NDOT.

Technical

  • Knowledge of electronic components their functions and how to identify them.
  • Understanding of electrical circuits components and schematics.
  • Basic understanding of programming languages and microcontrollers (e.g. Arduino Raspberry Pi).
  • Familiarity with standard testing procedures and protocols to ensure devices are functioning correctly.
  • Competence in assembling and disassembling electronic devices and systems.
  • Skill in using various tools and equipment such as multimeters oscilloscopes signal generators power supplies and hand and power tools.
  • Ability to diagnose and repair faults in electronic systems and devices.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical diagrams schematics and plans.

Other

  • Knowledge of safety protocols and best practices to avoid hazards in working with electronic equipment.
  • Proficiency in using computers for testing programming and documentation.
  • Skill in using various heavy equipment such as portable power generators ditching equipment articulated lifts and bucket trucks.
  • Interpersonal skills for interacting with other NDOT divisions and State agencies.
  • Ability to maintain detailed records of repairs maintenance and modifications.
