Archaeologist: $77105.60 - $118768.00
Senior Archaeologist: $91811.20 - $147804.80
Typically selected candidates are hired at a salary rate between the minimum and midpoint of the range.

Position Summary
Under general supervision this position supports and reviews all District projects that may affect cultural resources or historic properties within the Priest Rapids Project and across the District. It ensures compliance with cultural resource laws and the FERC license. Depending on experience the role may include senior-level responsibilities such as leading complex project reviews providing strategic guidance and coordinating with agencies and Tribal governments. This position helps safeguard cultural resources through increasing levels of autonomy and expertise.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:
Archaeologist:
- Provide technical expertise on archaeology historic properties and cultural resources for Grant PUD actions; facilitate or obtain federal state and local permits and approvals for Grant PUD activities potentially impacting historic properties; perform background searches fieldwork and data analysis and general project review ensuring adherence to cultural compliance laws and regulations.
- Research collect and analyze data and prepare reports as required by the Districts Historic Properties Management Plan; facilitate or create reports required by law management stakeholder groups and/or FERC; support work sites and work with district contractors to ensure compliance measures are met; maintain accurate records and foster professionalism and consistency in reporting.
- Participate in the discovery and identity of culturally rich resources and provide support on avoidance and mitigation activities; demonstrate understanding of potential impacts projects will have on cultural resources and recommend proper care to stakeholders in line with the FERC license and other governing agencies.
- Review direct and/or implement various cultural resources contracts with archaeological and geological entities; administer purchase orders review invoices attend meetings with contracted firms and ensure all aspects of the contract are fulfilled; participate in fieldwork and other hands on activities ensuring compliance measures and District goals are met.
- Meet with and discuss projects with cultural resource impact and identify potential issues and mitigation needs; collaborate with local tribes agencies and District staff to ensure compliance and appropriate measures are in place to protect valuable cultural resources and archaeological finds.
- Provide public interaction that draws attention and respectfulness to the Wanapum Tribe and its rich history; demonstrate a keen understanding of cultural management; provide knowledge in multiple facets of archaeology geology and cultural management with professionalism and care.

- Actively participate in all aspects of our safety program including but not limited to:
- Following all safety policies and procedures;
- Alerting supervisors and coworkers to unsafe or hazardous working conditions;
- Reporting any safety incidents or close calls within 24 hours to your supervisor; and
- Accepting feedback from supervisors and coworkers regarding your own safety performance.
Senior Archaeologist:
- Oversee and development of cost effective and environmentally compliant cultural resource management systems; administer and provide technical expertise on archaeology historic properties and cultural resources for Grant PUD actions; obtain federal state and local permits and approvals for Grant PUD activities potentially impacting historic properties; perform background searches fieldwork and data analysis and provide consistent knowledge on scientific methods needed to keep Grant PUD compliant with cultural resources compliance laws and regulations.
- Responsible for conducting analyses collecting data and preparing regulatory documents and reports; demonstrates keen knowledge of requirements under the Utilities Historic Properties Management Plan and Programmatic Agreement; Facilitates and/or creates reports required by law management stakeholder groups and/or FERC; monitor work sites and work with Utilities contractors to ensure compliance measures are met; maintain records in a professional confidential and traceable manner.
- Identify cultural resources and provide expertise on avoidance and mitigation activities; demonstrate and convey understanding of potential impacts projects may have on cultural resources and recommend proper care to stakeholders in line with the FERC license and other governing agencies.
- Direct and provide strong project management support to various projects both long and short-term affecting the Grant PUDs responsibility to cultural resources. Initiate develop review cultural resource contracts with archaeological and geological entities; initiate purchase orders review invoices attend meetings with contracted firms and ensure all aspects of the contract are fulfilled; direct and provide leadership perform fieldwork and other hands-on activities as needed to ensure projects remain compliant within budgetary constraints and Grant PUD goals are met.
- Provide strategy development risk assessment and valuable decision making to ensure the department accomplishes its goals in line with the strategic goals and vision for the Utility; lead and direct collaboration between agencies committees PUDs and groups; provide technical knowledge communication analysis and evaluation to ensure work is completed professionally; meet with stakeholders and Utilities leadership to discuss projects with cultural resource impact and identify potential issues and mitigation needs; collaborate frequently with local tribes agencies and Grant PUD staff at all levels to ensure planning and appropriate compliance measures are in place to protect cultural resources according to the requirements under the Utilities Historic Properties Management Plan and Programmatic Agreement.
- Provide public interaction that draws attention and respectfulness to the Wanapum Tribe and their rich history; communicate with people in diverse job classes and with peers in regulatory agencies; express self in a clear concise and scientifically accurate manner when providing oral or written reports; apply expertise in the anthropological sciences statistics geology strategy and mitigation; attend training and perform field work when this position if needed to operate a GPUD vehicle for business purposes please refer to the Vehicle/Asset Usage Policy IS-TA-POL-001.

Required Qualifications (Education Experience Licenses & Certifications):
- Masters Degree in archeology or cultural resources management or closely related field.
- 3 years experience in historic properties or cultural resources management.
- Meet Secretary of the Interior qualification standards for archaeology
Preferred Qualifications (Education Experience Licenses & Certifications):
- Proficiency in GIS
- Specialization in faunal analysis
Senior Archaeologist:
Required Qualifications (Education Experience Licenses & Certifications):
- Masters Degree in archeology anthropology or closely related field.
- Five (5) or more years of professional experience in historic properties and/or cultural resources management.
- Meet secretary of the interior qualification standards for archaeology.
Preferred Qualifications (Education Experience Licenses & Certifications):
- Proficiency in GIS
- Specialization in faunal analysis
Other Knowledge Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of historic properties and cultural resources management; archaeology and geology; local state and federal law governing cultural resources; inventory control.
- Skill in Historic property and cultural resource management; handling artifacts; geology and associated fields; managing personnel and organizing crews; oral and written skills; data records and reporting; interpretation and ability to complete archaeological site forms; communicating with Native American tribes; GIS and AutoCAD software tools and applications.
- Excellent skill in the use and repair of construction/maintenance hand and power tools.
- Knowledge of fire and building codes.
