Job Description
University of Iowa Health Care Department of Nursing is seeking a 100% Medical Assistant IIto work at the Medicine Specialty Clinic.
Summary:
Under direct supervision of LIP (licensed independent practitioner) RN (registered nurse) NM/ANM (nurse manager/assistant nurse manager) or other licenseddesignee functions as a member of the patient care team.Performs technical patient care and related clerical functions in the urgent care setting by coordinating all elements of the patient visit.
Duties to include:
- Staff will support our Medicine Specialty Clinic patients.
- Responsible forfacilitatingthe smooth flow of patients through the clinic through interaction with patients families and staff.
- Assist in clinic with physical examination of patient and related treatments including but not limited to patient history medication records allergies and immunizations.
- Manages internal and external medical records to ensure thataccurateand complete data is available for patient appointments.
- Administers routine oral rectal or injectable medications not requiringa high levelof skill or nursing judgment. These are medications that can only be administered by certified medical assistants or medical assistants who have completed a formal accredited training program.
- Performs routine laboratory tests such as urinalysis and blood work
- Performs patient care related to vital signs reviewing medications allergies lab draws setting up and assisting with minor procedures in-clinic treatments point of care testing removing staples and/or sutures assisting with dressing changes administering immunizations as ordered and other duties as assigned.
- Takes and uploads photos of wounds and Plastic Surgery Reconstruction.
- Setting up sterile field and assisting with Plastics and General Surgery minor procedures.
- Stocks room with appropriate medical supplies and appropriate linens.
- Provides psychological support to the patient and family based on assessed needs.
- Attends and participates in staff meetings.
- Identifiesvaccination needs for specific patient populations.
- Performs related clerical tasks including answering phones andprovidinginformation to other departments.
- Treats matters with confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA requirements.
- Demonstrates consideration and respect for patients families and co-workers always.
- Completes on-line and in-service education programs annually and as required/offered.
- Other tasks as assigned.

Schedule: Monday-Friday clinic hours 8-5 no weekends/holidays/call (5) 8 hour shifts

- CertificationORregistration as a Medical AssistantORcompletion of a recognized one-year Medical Assistant ProgramOR
- Completion of a health care profession program with a curriculum incorporating elements of a Medical Assistant program including but not limited to pathophysiology medical terminology basicpharmacologyand medication administration including dose calculation and psychology (include educational transcripts during application process)
