The opportunity
Join CSIROs Regulatory Tools Team within the Energy Research Unit as a Database Developer / Software Engineer. Based in Clayton Victoria youll work at the intersection of technology and sustainability helping to develop innovative cloud-based tools that support the National House Energy Rating Scheme (NatHERS). In this hybrid role youll contribute to the development and optimisation of database systems while also providing technical support to clients using our software and APIs. Its a fantastic opportunity to build your skills and make a national impact.
Your duties will include:
- Work in a team of software engineers and research scientists on developing the next generation of cloud-based particular:
- AccuRate Enterprise
- HStar Portal
- AHD (Australian Housing Database)
- Work with stakeholders to understand system requirements; develop maintain and test database systems and software solutions.
- Liaise with clients to support their technical needs and take personal responsibility for following up on reported issues.
- Follow CSIRO and government policy regarding the access of personal or other sensitive information whether of CSIRO staff and affiliates or members of the public.
- Appropriately manage access to commercial sensitive information of CSIRO and/or research or industry partners.
- Address problems promptly and in a constructive manner.
Role particulars
Location and office arrangements:Clayton Victoria preferred. Other locations may be considered.
Salary: AU$96k AU$109k per annum (pro rata for part-time) plus 15.4% superannuation
Tenure & work schedule: Indefinite. Options for part-time job-share and flexible/hybrid work arrangements can be discussed based on needs of role and individual circumstances.

As the successful candidate you will bring:
Essential criteria
- Relevant bachelors degree or equivalent relevant work experience in database development or software engineering.
- Recent work experience with the following:
- Microsoft SQL Server
- Database Design
- SQL Queries
- Views and Stored Procedures
- Indexes and Query Optimisation
- API Development
- Schemas (XML and JSON)
- C# Programming Language
- Azure Services
- Microsoft SQL Server
- Experience at providing technical support
Desirable criteria
- Recent work experience with the following
- Core
- React
- MVC Framework
- HTML
- JavaScript
- Dapper
- Understanding of TDD (Test Driven Development) methodologies
- Experience working for an Australian Government organisation
