We currently have exciting new opportunities to join the East Suffolk Councils Building Control Team as an Building Control Assistant.
About the role
You will be based in Lowestoft or Melton with the potential for you to work across the entire Partnership district of East Suffolk and Ipswich to give you a wider range of experience and enable you to develop your Building Control knowledge.
This exciting new role is primarily administrative involving tasks such as managing documentation scheduling inspections maintaining records customer triage and fee distribution all of which supplement the strong business operations of the team. However it offers significant career progression opportunities and the chance to develop autonomy in your work. You will play a crucial role in supporting the Building Control Leadership Team and the wider Surveying Team ensuring smooth operations and contributing to the success of our projects.
Your responsibilities will be focused on ensuring the building control service delivers the highest level of regulatory service within a competitive marketplace. You will also provide support to our team of inspectors dealing with initial enquiries from the public and assisting with the examination of applications for compliance with the Building Regulations whilst also playing a key part in supporting a positive and effective application experience for all customers. After gaining more experience there will be the opportunity to assist with advising applicants and agents site inspections and making recommendations for the approval or rejection of building regulation applications.
About you
Ideally you will already have 4 GCSEs including English Science and Maths at grades 4 or above (or equivalent) and currently be studying for (or possess) the BTEC level 3 Diploma in Construction or similar. The ideal candidate will have commercial awareness of building control as this is an integral part of the role however you may bring significant relevant experience either gained within construction or from within a Planning / Building Control role. If you have not yet completed a construction related qualification assisted study time will be accommodated to achieve this.
You will demonstrate self-motivation a good awareness of building control and demonstrating a willingness to learn in this profession. You should have good written and verbal communication skills and be well organised in your approach to work. Confident computer literacy is also essential particularly in the use of Microsoft Office.
