Job Description:
Role Summary
Sun Life is a leading international financial services organization providing diverse insurance wealth and asset management solutions to individual and corporate Clients. The Canadian Business is Sun Lifes largest with over $1B in earnings (approximately 1/3 of Sun Life Financial globally). We are a market leader in life health and wealth products in the Canadian Individual and Group insurance marketplace.
The Canada Strategy Team works with senior executives across the business to identify review and develop strategies addressing strategic opportunities and challenges facing the Canadian Business. The team leads a small portfolio of strategy and transformation projects in partnership with stakeholders from other areas of the business effectively acting as an internal consulting team. Additionally the team is responsible for driving the Strategic Planning process in coordination with our Finance team and business units.
Reporting to one of the AVPs Canada Strategy the successful candidate will be responsible for:
Managing the annual strategic planning process
Support key strategic priority enablement efforts
Independently conducting quantitative and qualitative research and analysis
Preparing and delivering recommendations on priority strategic questions for the Canadian Business
Engaging executive stakeholders and
Working collaboratively with strategy team members and partners across the Business.
This role requires strong problem-solving and analytical skills strategic thinking and insight generation and effective communication and relationship-building abilities. It offers a unique opportunity to gain exposure to Sun Life Canadas different lines of business and learn from a diverse team of experienced strategy professionals.
What will you do
Strategic plan development: Support the creation of the annual strategic plan including priority definition prior year performance leadership of cross-functional teams and close collaboration with business unit and enabling function leaders
Office of the President: Deliver on priority analyses and projects from the Canadian President including competitive intelligence market research partnership analysis and other efforts
Problem solving and analytics: Conducting financial and strategic analyses including employing strategic frameworks interpreting analytical results generating insights and writing decks or reports to provide findings and recommendations
Communication and dissemination: Presenting results and engaging partners in discussion on executing next steps and implementing the recommendations as appropriate. Preparation and presentation of both formal presentations and informal updates on analysis/recommendations for senior management
Sustaining a strategic community: Actively fostering connectivity dialogue and sharing of insights and capabilities across Sun Life Canadas various strategy teams and practitioners
What do you need to succeed
Specialized knowledge/skills:
Excellent oral and written communication presentation skills and interpersonal skills
Willingness to roll up your sleeves and deliver on whatever is top priority for the President
Strong conceptual and analytical problem solving skills with a solid background structuring problems and hypotheses working with data conducting quantitative and qualitative analyses interpreting and synthesizing results and writing reports/presentations
Strong stakeholder management skills including ability to build and maintain relationships with business partners
Strong results-oriented project management skills; able to prioritize and organize work effectively to deliver on tight timelines with a high attention to detail
Background in strategy project delivery
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Excel PowerPoint Word)
Education and experience:
Minimum of 3-5 years relevant business experience ideally with some experience in insurance or financial services; experience in/or knowledge of Sun Lifes business would be an asset but not required
2 years in top-tier management consulting or equivalent experience in a Corporate setting
University degree in business or related discipline; MBA would be an asset
Experience analyzing and solving complex business problems;
Experience in financial analytics including using modelling tools and techniques would be an asset
Experience in conducting in-depth secondary research including collection and synthesis; some experience with primary research would be an asset
As this position is posted in several locations we specify that bilingualism (French English both oral and written) is required for Quebec only for the frequent interactions with English and French-speaking colleagues or internal partners across Canada or worldwide.

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other addition to Base Pay eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance.
