Reports to: Vice President of Finance and Operations

Classification: Part-time Hourly Non-Exempt 20-25 hour workweek Onsite

ABOUT CHRISTIAN THEOLOGICAL SEMINARY - TWO SCHOOLS ONE MISSION

Christian Theological Seminary (CTS) is an academic learning community with graduate programs through its School of Theology and School of Counseling accessible mental health services through the Counseling Center and collaboration to mitigate poverty through the Faith & Action Project. JOB SUMMARY

The General Accounting Technician is responsible for general accounting reconciliations and quality control in restricted funds accounting financial reporting support and tax support for CTS. Serve as backup for the Accounts Payable Technician. Other duties include a range of general administrative responsibilities specific to the position.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

General Accounting:

  • Prepare and record monthly and quarterly transactions in the accounting system
  • Prepare and process Counseling Center Resident payroll
  • Review monthly transactions for errors. Work with appropriate staff to correct
  • Perform monthly account reconciliations including but not limited to receivables payables and revenue
  • Prepare and maintain fiscal year-end work papers
  • Creation of End of Year Student 1098 Forms

Financial Reporting Support:

  • Assist with the preparation of ad hoc financial reports as needed and variance analysis
  • Work with Seminary Advancement to ensure gift and contribution reporting is accurate
  • Coordinate with Director of Budgeting and departmental budget managers on individual transaction questions
  • Create and analyze aging schedules and other reports including grant reports

General Administration:

  • Assist auditors during a review
  • Provide work papers data and documentation as appropriate
  • Responsible for the timely completion of other duties and projects as assigned

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience in General Accounting is required
  • Basic level knowledge in the area of accounting financial controls and information systems is required
  • Advanced computer skills required (including a working knowledge of Excel and Word)
  • Excellent judgment and decision-making abilities required
  • Ability to interpret and evaluate policy and procedural requirements and analyze data required
  • Effective written and oral communication skills required
  • Organizational and interpersonal skills required
  • Ability to work under pressure and with frequent requests from multiple sources each having their own timelines and constraints and with all levels of administrative staff required
  • Experience with accounting systems including Financial Edge is preferred
  • Knowledge of fund accounting is preferred
