Davis Behavioral Health Inc. is actively recruiting a full-time Case Manager to work in the Adult Mental Health program on the AOT (Involuntary Commitment) team. This position will be based out of the DBH Layton office; however the majority of the work will be conducted in the community throughout Davis County.

The AOT Case Manager provides client-centered trauma-informed and ethically grounded case management services to individuals in Davis County who have been court-ordered to receive mental health treatment under civil commitment. This role supports clients engagement with treatment and promotes recovery autonomy and community integration. The Case Manager tracks compliance with court-ordered treatment facilitates access to needed services and advocates for clients rights and dignity throughout their recovery process.

The position requires demonstrated cultural humility clinical judgment strong interpersonal skills and the ability to form collaborative relationships with clients natural supports legal entities and multidisciplinary providers.

Essential Job Functions

The AOT Case Manager must be able to complete the following essential job functions:

  • Provide case management using the generalist intervention model: engagement assessment planning implementation evaluation termination and follow-up.
  • Monitor compliance with court-ordered treatment plans and coordinate care with internal teams and community providers.
  • Build and maintain therapeutic rapport with clients respecting their self-determination while promoting engagement in services.
  • Assist clients in accessing resources including but not limited to medical dental legal financial housing and transportation services.
  • Educate clients and their families about civil commitment treatment expectations and available supports.
  • Provide skill-building support to increase independence in activities of daily living (ADLs) and instrumental activities of daily living (IADLs).
  • Conduct outreach and engagement with clients who are not actively participating in services.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary care planning and coordinate treatment needs with intake psychiatry and therapy teams.
  • Attend civil commitment hearings and provide supporting documentation and observations as requested.
  • Maintain timely accurate documentation in compliance with agency and licensing standards (within 24 hours).
  • Safely operate a company vehicle and transport clients to and from appointments when needed.
  • Meet annual productivity standards for direct service.
  • Participate in required training including CPR/AED and administration of Naloxone.
  • Carry out other duties as assigned in support of client care and program goals.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as needed and assigned.

The AOT Case Manager is expected to uphold the core social work values of service social justice dignity and worth of the person importance of human relationships integrity and competence. This includes maintaining client confidentiality practicing within ones scope of competence engaging in ongoing professional development and advocating for the rights and needs of vulnerable individuals involved in the civil commitment process.

Position-specific Job Functions

In addition to the essential job functions outlined above the following responsibilities are assigned to your specific position.

  • Attending commitment hearings as an agency observer
  • Outreaching clients who are not attending appointments or are dodging treatment
  • Explaining involuntary commitment to clients family members and other natural supports
  • Outreaching newly committed clients at area hospital Behavioral Units to being the intake and scheduling process after the commitment hearing
  • Coordinating client needs and status with other DBH units.
  • Ability to build professional relationships with community partners
  • Collection of clinical recommendations for upcoming commitment hearings
  • Coordinating physical outreach of clients not engaged in treatment
  • Working with DBH intake staff medical providers and clinical therapists to coordinate client treatment needs

Introductory Period

All new employees at DBH have a 6-month introductory period to assess whether they can perform the essential functions of the job at the expected level within the specified timeframes and are a good fit for the job.

Employment Classification & Schedule

This position is classified as full-time non-exempt with a 40-hour per week schedule.

Work schedules at DBH are established to meet the needs of our clients and the agency. Program Supervisors with the approval of Program Directors determine the specific schedules for their assigned departments and have the authority to ask employees to work a different shift and/or in a different location on a short-term or permanent basis to meet the departments needs.

The proposed schedule for this position is Monday through Friday during regular business hours. This position does require flexibility to meet client and program needs including attending commitment hearings staff meeting and other tasks related to completing essential job functions.

Location

The office for the AOT Case Manager is located on the DBH Layton Campus is located at 2250 North Robins Dr. Layton UT 84041. Work locations include but are not limited to clients homes clients family member homes hospital settings courthouses jails DBH offices and other locations to help the clients meet their needs.

Significant fieldwork is required including frequent travel throughout the community to conduct outreach attend meetings and provide direct client services. The position may require the use of a personal vehicle; mileage reimbursement is provided in accordance with organizational policies.

Compensation

The hourly rate for this position is outlined below:

BSW Degree SSW License

  • $25.50 per hour base wage 1% per year of licensure

Non-BSW Degree

  • $21.50 per hour base wage 1% per year of direct social work experience up to 10 years.

No Degree TCM Certification

  • $19.00 per hour 1% per year of direct social work experience up to 10 years.

Required Qualifications

Education/Licensure/Certification

Graduation from a college or university with a bachelors degree in social work (BSW) AND active licensure as a Social Service Worker (SSW) in good standing in the State of Utah.

AND

The AOT Case Manager must complete and maintain certification in First Aid and CPR.

Underfill Options

Position may be under-filled by an individual who has graduated from a college or university with a bachelors degree in another social science field (i.e. psychology criminal justice sociology etc.) AND has active licensure as a Social Service Worker (SSW) in good standing in the State of Utah or can meet criteria to obtain licensure within 12 months of hire.

OR

Position may also be underfilled with someone who has the requisite experience in working with seriously mentally ill adults and is able to obtain and maintain certification as a targeted case manager.

Professional Experience

The ideal candidate will have a working knowledge of mental health and substance use disorder services community resources experience working with clients that have severe mental illness is hardworking and can work independently as well as in a team environment. Experience in mental health case management or related behavioral health services preferred (1-2 years).

Skills/Abilities/Qualifications

The AOT Case Manager must possess the following skills abilities and qualifications to successfully perform the essential functions of the job:

  • Demonstrated cultural competence and commitment to ethical social work practice in accordance with the NASW Code of Ethics.
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional boundaries with empathy and respect.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong crisis de-escalation problem-solving and advocacy skills.
  • Technological proficiency to complete documentation in the field and communicate with team members securely.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
  • Must be at least 18 years old with a valid drivers license and clean driving record

All employees at DBH must successfully pass a pre-employment criminal background check as well as a pre-employment drug screening. Since Davis Behavioral Health works with Federal grants the company and its employees must comply with the Federal drug laws including no use of medical marijuana.

Physical Demands

Tasks require a variety of physical activities not generally involving muscular strain but do require frequent walking standing stooping sitting reaching talking hearing and seeing. Common eye hand and finger dexterity are required for many tasks. Mental application utilizes memory for details verbal instructions emotional stability and discriminating thinking. Periodic interaction with youth or adults in crisis requiring participation in de-escalation processes may occur causing stress or threat of physical injury.

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and perform a range of physical tasks including walking standing driving and navigating stairs.
  • Position involves travel to varied community settings including hospitals homes courts jails and office spaces.
  • Occasional high-stress situations may occur involving individuals in emotional or behavioral crisis.
  • Must be comfortable working independently in the field with minimal direct supervision.
