We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate school nurse to serve as the health leader of the MorganElementary School community a Pre-K through Grade 5 elementary this vital role the school nurse oversees all health policies programs and manages the care of ill or injured students ensuring the well-being of the students and supporting their ability to learn and thrive. School nurses play a key role in promoting physical emotional mental and social health while providing expertise in school health services and health education. School nurses routinely perform the following duties using their clinical knowledge and judgment.
The School Nurse:
- Works under the general supervision of the Superintendent/Receiver Chief of Pupil Services and Director of Health Wellness and Nursing.
- Works collaboratively and cooperatively with the School Building Principal and Administration.
- Works with a supportive team (orientation and training provided).
- Collaborates and conducts state-mandated programs such as screening programs.
- Maintains up-to-date school records.
- Provides medically prescribed interventions including medication administration and cares for ill or injured children on a daily basis.
- Provides emergency health care and referral to staff.
- Manages the medication administration plan in the school.
- Acts as a resource in health education to school personnel students and families.
- Uses community resources for referral of students with unmet health needs including the need for a primary care provider.
- Serves as liaison between school personnel family and community healthcare providers to ensure a healthy school environment
- Performs related duties as needed.
Qualifications
- Registered Nurse (RN) required
- Bachelors Degree in Nursing
- Experience as a Registered Nurse in child health community health or other relevant clinical nursing setting preferred
- Current CPR certification
- Ability to read interpret and apply student performance data to instructional planning and execution
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; excellent teamwork skills
- Drivers license and own transportation required
Required license(s):
- Valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Massachusetts
- Current CPR/AED
- Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education School Nurse (Levels: All)
