Position Summary
The Chief Operating Officer (COO) is a key leader of the executive leadership team responsible for overseeing and optimizing day-to-day operations across the organizations senior living communities affordable housing properties and adult day health programs. The COO ensures operational excellence regulatory compliance and high-quality service delivery that aligns with the organizations mission to provide safe dignified and supportive living environments for older adults and underserved populations.
The ideal candidate brings deep experience in both housing and care services a passion for mission-driven work and a track record of leading teams managing budgets and implementing sustainable systems and structures.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership
- Oversee all operational aspects of the senior living communities affordable housing properties and adult day health programs.
- Ensure the efficient and effective delivery of services that promote quality of life resident satisfaction and operational sustainability.
- Develop and implement systems policies and processes to improve performance reduce risk and support growth.
Strategic Execution
- Collaborate with the CEO and lead the executive team to drive the organizations strategic plan ensuring operational goals align with mission and vision.
- Identify opportunities for innovation in care models housing development and service delivery.
- Lead cross-functional initiatives that enhance integration between housing and healthcare services.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with all relevant local state and federal regulations including HUD Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) Medicare/Medicaid and assisted living licensing.
- Oversee internal audits inspections risk assessments and emergency preparedness programs.
- Promote a culture of accountability and continuous improvement in service delivery and compliance.
Team Leadership & Culture
- Supervise and support a team of senior directors and operational managers across properties and service lines.
- Foster a collaborative inclusive and mission-aligned organizational culture.
- Provide coaching performance management and leadership development to ensure high team engagement and effectiveness.
Financial Stewardship
- In partnership with the CFO develop and manage operating budgets for communities properties and programs.
- Monitor financial and operational KPIs to ensure sustainable performance.
- Identify and implement cost-saving initiatives while maintaining quality and service standards.
External Relationships
- Collaborate with public and private partners regulatory agencies vendors and community stakeholders to support mission fulfillment.
- Represent the organization with funders government agencies and strategic partners as needed.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelors degree in Business Administration Public Administration Healthcare Management or related field (Masters preferred).
- 10 years of senior leadership experience in nonprofit management senior living affordable housing or healthcare.
- Proven success overseeing operations in multi-site or complex service delivery environments.
- Experience with HUD programs LIHTC compliance and assisted living or skilled nursing operations is strongly preferred.
