Job Description

Come join the Murdock Auto Team of Logan!

The Sales Manager is responsible for overseeing the sales department at a dealership driving sales performance managing a team of sales consultants and ensuring customer satisfaction. This role involves creating sales strategies meeting sales targets and providing leadership and guidance to the sales team. The Sales Manager is also responsible for managing inventory implementing marketing campaigns and working closely with other departments such as finance service and operations to ensure seamless customer service and operations.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  1. Sales Leadership and Team Management:
    • Lead motivate and manage a team of sales consultants to achieve monthly and annual sales goals.
    • Provide training guidance and coaching to sales staff to improve their product knowledge sales skills and customer service.
    • Monitor and evaluate team performance providing regular feedback and addressing performance issues.
    • Organize regular sales meetings to ensure alignment with dealership goals share product knowledge and discuss best practices.
  2. Sales Strategy and Goal Setting:
    • Develop and implement sales strategies to increase dealership revenue meet sales targets and enhance the customer experience.
    • Monitor sales activity customer trends and competitor offerings to adjust sales tactics and stay competitive.
    • Create promotional campaigns and sales events to increase customer traffic and drive sales.
  3. Customer Relationship Management:
    • Ensure that the sales team provides exceptional customer service by addressing customer needs handling complaints and ensuring a smooth sales process.
    • Oversee the follow-up process with customers after sales ensuring that they are satisfied with their purchase and encouraging repeat business.
    • Cultivate relationships with past customers and potential buyers through outreach promotions and referrals.
  4. Inventory and Product Management:
    • Manage vehicle inventory ensuring that the sales team is knowledgeable about available models pricing and features.
    • Work with the purchasing team to forecast vehicle demand ensuring adequate stock levels and proper vehicle pricing.
    • Conduct regular inventory reviews to track vehicle sales identify slow-moving stock and recommend strategies for inventory optimization.
  5. Financial Oversight:
    • Monitor profitability and sales performance ensuring that vehicles are sold at competitive yet profitable prices.
    • Work with the Finance Manager to ensure that customers are offered financing options and upsell products such as extended warranties and service contracts.
    • Ensure that all vehicle sales are processed accurately with proper documentation compliance with policies and adherence to financing and trade-in protocols.
  6. Sales Reporting and Analysis:
    • Prepare and present regular sales reports to upper management outlining sales performance revenue and trends.
    • Analyze sales data to identify opportunities for improvement and develop action plans to address any shortfalls in performance.
    • Implement corrective actions when sales goals are not met and celebrate team successes when targets are achieved.
  7. Collaboration and Coordination:
    • Collaborate with the marketing team to develop strategies to drive traffic to the dealership and increase brand awareness.
    • Work with other departments such as service and parts to ensure smooth operations and a positive customer experience.
    • Attend and participate in dealership events trade shows and community outreach initiatives to promote the dealership and its offerings.

Physical Requirements:

  • Standing/Walking: The role involves standing and walking for extended periods particularly when interacting with customers on the sales floor overseeing sales team activities and conducting walk-arounds with potential buyers.
  • Sitting: Significant time will be spent sitting at a desk or office chair reviewing sales reports handling administrative tasks and managing sales processes.
  • Repetitive Motion: Frequent use of a computer keyboard and phone requires repetitive motion tasks such as typing and dialing.
  • Bending and Reaching: May be required to bend or reach when retrieving files documents or performing administrative tasks.
  • Manual Dexterity: Needed for using office equipment handling paperwork signing documents and conducting vehicle demonstrations.
  • Vision and Hearing: Good vision is necessary for reading reports reviewing paperwork and conducting vehicle demonstrations. Clear hearing is essential for customer interactions and communication with the sales team.
  • Physical Stamina: The role may require physical stamina especially during high-sales periods or events where extended hours are necessary.

Driving Requirements:

  • Valid Drivers License: A valid drivers license is required since the role involves test-driving vehicles with customers and potentially moving inventory between locations.
  • Occasional Travel: The position may require occasional travel for dealership events industry trade shows or to meet with suppliers manufacturers and other dealerships.
  • Clean Driving Record: A clean driving record is important especially for insurance purposes and for driving customers vehicles or company vehicles for test drives.

Qualifications:

  1. Education:
    • A high school diploma or equivalent is required; a bachelors degree in business marketing or a related field is preferred.
  2. Experience:
    • Previous experience in sales and a minimum of 1-3 years of management experience in a sales environment.
    • Previous F&I experience is highly preferred.
    • Passionate about training and developing team members.
    • Proven track record of meeting or exceeding sales targets and driving revenue growth.
    • Experience in managing and motivating a team with high energy and strong leadership and coaching skills.
  3. Skills and Abilities:
    • Strong leadership and team-building skills with the ability to motivate and inspire others to achieve goals.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills both verbal and written.
    • Ability to analyze sales data and adjust strategies accordingly.
    • Strong negotiation skills particularly when dealing with customers and suppliers.
    • In-depth knowledge of products vehicle features and industry trends.
    • Proficiency with dealership management software CRM systems and basic office software (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite).
  4. Other Attributes:
    • Customer-focused attitude with a commitment to providing exceptional service.
    • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to handle customer complaints and objections professionally.
    • Self-motivated goal-oriented and able to work independently or as part of a team.
