GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) is seeking a temporary Telecom Technician II for the Emergency Communications Program in Cheyenne Wyoming. This position maintains emergency communications systems in and around WYDOT Headquarters including radio communication telephone data wiring and roadside communications essential to the mission of law enforcement public safety entities and to ensure the safety of the traveling public.

This position offers:

Cheyenne is a steadily growing community along the Front Range but still true to the history of the Old West. The city offers nearby access to mountain biking skiing hiking fishing hunting and other outdoor activities. Cheyenne is also home to the Daddy of em All Cheyenne Frontier Days held the last week of July. Wyoming is one of only nine states with no state income tax.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed at the job level.

  • Repairs and maintains complex electronic equipment.
  • Diagnose and maintain hardware and software.
  • Performs preventive maintenance emergency repair and troubleshooting modifications utility locates operation software maintenance and oversees initial operations.
  • Inspect diagnose and document and repair roadside devices.
  • Assist the Lead Site Manager in maintaining and upgrading the current WYDOT network hardware.
  • Maintains the State of Wyomings public safety communication system WyoLink as well as other public messaging systems.

Qualifications

PREFERENCES/**AGENCY REQUIREMENTS:

Preference will be given to applicants who have an FCC General Radio Operators License and Tower Climbing Safety and Rescue Certification.
Preference will be given to those with a Bachelors Degree or 3-4 years of experience in Technical Operations.

**A drivers license is required.


KNOWLEDGE:

  • Basic hand tool use and knowledge.
  • Ability to read and use a digital multimeter.
  • Ability to perform the job safely.
  • Proper training in basic first aid and CPR.

Necessary Special Requirements

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • May work in extreme weather and involve heavy lifting.
  • Works at heights of 200 feet and under.
