As a Water Instrument Technician youll be at the heart of our mission. Working under general supervision youll apply your technical skills to install maintain and repair high-precision hydrometeorology and environmental monitoring instruments. The District operates a vast network of over 400 automated precipitation gauges across Maricopa and surrounding counties capturing real-time rainfall data thats essential for public safety emergency response and flood management.
This position requires regularly working at heights to access and service equipment so a willingness and ability to safely work at elevated locations is essential. If youre comfortable with heights excited about technology the environment and serving your community this role is for you!

We Require
Two years of electronic and radio telemetric instrumentation experience
High school diploma or GED
A thorough understanding of analog and digital electronics technology and VHF radio telemetry and radio wave propagation
Related post-secondary education may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis
We Also Value
Experience installing maintaining repairing calibrating and modifying electronic electromechanical pneumatic and hydraulic sensory and control systems.
Experience operating specialized electronic testing tools diagnosing problems in sensory and control equipment and recommending corrective action.
Skill in operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of specialized software.
Job Contributions
Performs routine maintenance inspection troubleshooting and repair of electronic and radio telemetric instrumentation
Installs rain water-level and weather gauges in remote locations; lays conduit for the sensor signal lines; calibrates the sensors and maintains the station exterior and grounds
Performs radio path verifications and operates and maintains electronic test and calibration equipment
Uses personal computers for diagnosing programming and testing equipment and keeps records of instrument operation and work performed
Operates various manual and power tools and equipment and performs other duties as assigned or required
Working Conditions
A valid Arizona Drivers License issued by the State of Arizona or the ability to obtain within six months of hire
Technicians must be able to perform and pass Basic First Aid and basic CPR and pass Certification in First Aid Trauma and AED Training within six months of hire
Ability to lift up to 50-100 lbs. occasionally 10-25 lbs. frequently or up to 10-20 lbs. constantly
May be subject to extreme temperatures wetness/humidity respiratory hazards and noise and vibration
The position generally conducts business out in the field utilizing various hand tools for numerous construction and maintenance duties including shovels rakes pickaxes brooms and varying-sized electric and hand tools. It also operates and maintains electronic test and calibration equipment and personal computers for diagnosing programming testing and record keeping
Familiarization with four-wheel drive capabilities and self-recovery winching techniques will be needed from time to time.
Fieldwork will often be conducted in remote locations under potentially extreme weather environments. Attire for the position will be provided and maintained by Maricopa County and has the potential for General Construction and/or Field Inspection PPE required to perform duties daily. This includes but is not limited to safety-toe footwear hard hats high visibility vests eye protection and durable pants such as jeans
Climbing up to 100 ft and hiking up to 1 mile in remote areas
