Job Description

Job Title: Assistant Director of Child NutritionReports to: Director of Child NutritionPosition Status: Full time school year - 190 work daysPosition SummaryThe Assistant Director of Child Nutrition assists the Director in overseeing all aspects ofCCSUs Child Nutrition Program (CNP). The Assistant Directors most essential job function isto function as the Floater Head Cook for all of the seven schools in the CCSU when there arecoverage needs due to callouts and staff shortages. The Assistant Director also assists inadministrating planning implementing and evaluating the Food Service program in order tomeet the nutritional and educational needs of children as they relate to the CNP. The schoolnutrition professional shall assist with the development of a sound and functional food programwhile following federal state and local guidelines. The CNP is to provide an environment thatsupports healthy food habits while maintaining program integrity and customer DutiesThe essential duties of the Assistant Child Nutrition Director include: Substitute as a Head Cook within the schools as needed. Work with the Director to coordinate and supervise daily operations ensuring efficientand effective food production and distribution. Use periodic visits and kitchen participation to form strong relationships with cooks inorder to provide effective training resolve inter-staff issues and develop a can-doculture within the CNP Transport food and supplyes to and between schools. *Must have a reliable vehicle beable to drive own vehicle to and between other sites. Directly oversee programs such as the Commodity Supplemental Food Program andDOD Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program to ensure full use of funds and eliminateoverlap or conflict with grant funding such as Vermonts Local Foods Incentive Grant. Coordinate and assist in conducting meetings and in-services for the purpose ofdisseminating information related to food safety program efficiency and establishedprocurement procedure. Provide training and assistance to Food Service staff in the proper use of the Point of SaleSystem and other required daily Child Nutrition paperwork and record keeping. Assist inmaintaining record keeping and accountability to ensure all records and supportingdocumentation are maintained in accordance with local state and federal laws andpolicies. Perform with a commitment to promote a quality CNP that meets the nutritional needs ofthe customers served Perform with an overall nature that is committed to the goals and visions of the CNP andthe CCSU as a perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essentialduty satisfactorily in addition to the following: Education and Experience. High School Diploma AND At least Five (5) years of FoodService Culinary or relevant experience Required. Bachelors or Associates Degree (orequivalent) with concentration in food and nutrition food service management dieteticsnutrition education culinary arts business or a related field Preferred. A workingknowledge of cooking procedures following/scaling recipes and kitchen health andsafety is Required. Certificates Licenses Registrations. ServSafe Certification is required. May be acquiredwithin 90 days of hire date. Local food safety certification is required. Must beknowledgeable of all local health and food safety ordinances. Language Skills. Ability to effectively present information to and respond to questionsfrom administrators parents peers board members and the general public. Mathematical/Reasoning Skills. Ability to follow and scale a recipe. Ability to do simplemath in order to operate the POS system and make change. Must be able to use criticalthinking skills in order to resolve problems. Must possess excellent time managementand organizational skills. Computer Skills and Experience. Good basic computer skills and experience with wordprocessing programs required. Experience with Microsoft and Google operating a Point of Sale (POS) system. Must be able to communicateelectronically through use of email and other similar computer platforms. Must be able tolearn new programs easily and quickly. Communication and Interpersonal Skills. Ability to efficiently effectively and regularlycommunicate and work cooperatively with a variety of individuals including studentspeers parents supervisors coworkers and representatives of outside organizations andbusinesses. Ability to effectively handle stressful situations and resolve RequirementsThe work environment is in a mixed environment with a combination of time spent in an officesetting and in a commercial kitchen setting with moderate noise a variation of temperatures andfrequent exposure to cleaning chemicals. The work is moderate/heavy work requiring exertionof up to 40 pounds of force to move or lift objects on a regular basis. The following physical andmental abilities are representative of those expected to complete the essential functions of thejob: Standing for prolonged periods Repetitive motions with the hands wrists or fingers Repetitive motions with force on the back or lower body Ability to feel grasp or hold objects by hand Discernment of colors visually Discernment of letters or numbers Discernment of objects under low light or distant conditions Understanding and communicating in spoken language Understanding and communicating in written language Perception of sounds Making decisions using logic and rational thinkingTo perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform the essential jobfunctions satisfactorily.
