The position as a Licensed Practical Nurse for the Marion City School District is now open. Please note the job description is attached. This position is paid as per salary schedule for Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Health Consultant. Normal working hours are as according to the assigned school schedule.

JOB DESCRIPTION

TITLE: Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Health Consultant

RESPONSIBLE TO: Student Affairs Supervisor

DEPARTMENT: Licensed Practical Nurse

CLASSIFICATION: Licensed Practical Nurse

QUALIFICATIONS: Current Ohio License license or other legal credential required.

Degree(s) required in the area of major study. Prior job experience is beneficial. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable. The ability to travel between buildings. The ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively both orally and in writing.

LENGTH OF CONTRACT: Nine-month contract 190 days at 7.25 hours per day 1377.5 hours per year.

GENERAL DUTIES: Promote an atmosphere for health learning by encouraging a state of physical and emotional wellness for all students. Participate and provide the fullest possible educational opportunity for all students by minimizing absence due to illness and creating a climate of health and well-being in the districts schools.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

  • Conducts school health service to promote and protect the optimal health status for children including immunizations and tests for hearing and vision. Procedure assignments i.e. catheterization tube feeds and diabetic care.
  • Maintains up-to-date cumulative health records on all students and completes required records and documentation
  • Contacts homes of children referred by principal.
  • Assists school personnel in establishing sanitary conditions in schools.
  • Review emergency forms and prepare vital statistics.
  • Initiate referrals to parents school personnel and community health resources for intervention remediation and follow through.
  • Provide on-going health counseling with pupils parents school personnel and health agencies.
  • Utilize existing health resources to provide appropriate care of students.
  • Maintain evaluate and interpret cumulative health data to accommodate individual needs of students.
  • Participate as the health team specialist on the child education evaluation team to develop the Individual Education Plan (IEP).
  • Implement school health management protocols for the child with special health needs including the administration of medication.
  • Provide for crisis intervention for acute illness injury and emotional disturbances.
  • Promote and assist in the control of communicable diseases through preventative immunization programs early detection surveillance and reporting and follow-up of contagious diseases.
  • Recommend provisions for a school environment conducive to learning.
  • Provide support for staff wellness programs
  • Assume responsibility for maintaining first aid supplies in clinics as needed.

  • The employee shall remain free from any alcohol or abuse of a non-prescribed controlled substance in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the District.
  • Performs such other duties as may be assigned by the Director of Student Service Student Affairs Supervisor and Principal.

ADDITIONAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Occasional exposure to blood bodily fluids and tissue.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
