As Protection and Control (P&C) Engineer you will be working with a team of P&C detailed designers and contribute to large-scale electrical energy projects. You will evolve in a multidisciplinary environment and develop skills by collaborating with experienced professionals particularly on substation hydroelectric power station and renewable energy projects with numerous clients across Canada. This is a hybrid role that can be based out of one our offices in British Columbia (Vancouver Kelowna or Rossland).
Primary Responsibilities
- Design and review the protection and control drawings of substation systems and power systems
- Approve project deliverables including detail drawings electrical diagrams layouts equipment sizing etc.
- Collaborate with members of the engineering team as well as project managers from other disciplines
- Prepare plans drawings and calculations based on specifications provided
- Responsible of the development of electrical Command and Protection systems including single-line diagrams logic diagrams three-line AC diagrams protection and c.c. control diagrams wiring drawings device connection drawings assembly plans material lists and quotes for the manufacturing and installation on site of Control and Protection panels
- Supervise the development of AC and DC station service power systems including single-line diagrams AC & DC load calculations AC & DC distribution diagrams connection drawings of chargers batteries inverter etc.
- Participate in site surveys (stations and power stations)
- Coordinate with engineering disciplines: equipment civil mechanical and building in order to develop design solutions for optimized and advanced substation and power plant systems
- Possibility of carrying out site work sporadically when the opportunity arises (start-up or monitoring)
- Perform QA/QC of the electrical engineering design packages
- Attending in the review meetings and updating the work package based on clients comments
- Support commissioning and field engineering
Qualifications :
- University Degree in Electrical engineering
- Registered (or eligible to register as) member of Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EBGC) or that of a recognized Professional Engineering Association in Canada. Preferred
- 6 years of experience working on P&C projects
- Good knowledge of protection and control principles and philosophies is mandatory
- Work experience in the design of electrical systems
- 3 years experience in detailed P&C design with major and/or local utilities in Canada
- Fluent in English (oral and written)
- Basic knowledge of the office suite (Outlook Word Excel)
- Autonomous resourceful and enjoys teamwork
The expected salary for this position is from $90 000 to $120 000 based on the richness and diversity of the candidates experience training skills and internal equity. The position or associated salary could vary depending on the profile of the candidate.
