Duties & Responsibilities:
(NOTE: **denotes essential functions):
- **Perform basic preventive predictive and corrective maintenance on food manufacturing and packaging equipment to ensure optimal production; submit recommendations to the program manager for outsourcing maintenance when not feasible in-house
- ** Trouble shoot and repair equipment correctly and on time; submit recommendations to the program manager for outsourcing repairs when not feasible in-house
- **Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and provide technical support during production shifts.
- **Perform regular inspections and tests on production equipment and systems to identify potential failures and initiate timely repairs.
- **Maintain accurate maintenance records and document work performed in a digital format.
- **Assist in equipment installations modifications and upgrades in support of production improvements and new product lines.
- **Procure maintenance supplies spare parts and services as needed following established University of Hawaii (UH) System procurement procedures.
- **Prepare process and manage necessary UH paperwork for procurement work orders contracts and regulatory compliance documentation.
- **Ensure repair and maintenance activities comply with food safety sanitation general manufacturing procedures (GMPs) and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards; follow Maui Food Innovation Center (MFIC) standard operating procedures ( SOP) safety rules procedures and policies and maintain a clean and orderly work area; adhere to the equipment manufacturer maintenance guidelines.
- **Work collaboratively with entrepreneurs and MFIC staff to support operational needs; collaborate with other stakeholders departments and communicate requirements opportunity areas the status of work orders and results.
- **Maintain and organize maintenance tools spare parts inventory and work areas.
- **Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on equipment reliability efficiency and workplace safety.
- **Support and adhere to UH safety policies procedures and programs.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education and Professional Work Experience- Possession of a baccalaureate degree or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education knowledge skills and abilities as indicated.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- Functional knowledge of principles practices and techniques in the area ofmachinery and equipmentdemonstrated by knowledge understanding and ability to apply concepts terminology.
- Functional knowledge and understanding of principles theories federal and state laws rules regulations and systems associated withmachinery and equipment.
- Demonstrated ability to recognize problems identify possible causes and resolve the full range of problems that may commonly occur in the area ofmachinery and equipment.
- Demonstrated ability to understand oral and written documentation write reports and procedures and communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations groups team members and individuals.
- Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer apply word processing software Adobe and Google Workspace.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Industrial Technology Mechanical Engineering Technology Electrical Engineering Technology Manufacturing Engineering Technology Mechatronics Engineering Technology or a related field.
- Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) programming and troubleshooting certification (Allen-Bradley Siemens etc.)
- Forklift operator certification
- Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) training
- Experience with Preventive and Predictive Maintenance (PM/PdM) programs
- Strong knowledge of industrial electrical systems (480V 3-phase control systems)
- PLC troubleshooting and basic programming
- Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs)
- Robotics/automation systems experience
- Experience with hydraulic and pneumatic systems
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics
- Familiarity with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems) software
- Knowledge of Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) food safety and sanitation standards
- Familiarity with GMPs
- Experience maintaining equipment in a food processing environment
- Understanding of CIP (Clean-in-Place) systems and procedures
