Job Description

  • Employment Type: Fixed Term until Aug 2027
  • Remuneration: $103K to $110K (depending on experience) 17% super
  • Location: NSW

This position is open to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants only and covered by the exemption under section 126 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW).

About the role:

The Research Officer supports multidisciplinary research projects focused on codesigned health research and innovation within the Department of Indigenous Studies.

The role provides technical and research support to senior staff across a range of projects including the contribution and application of knowledge in the field of translational health research with Aboriginal people to a range of projects conducted within theDepartment of Indigenous Studies.

The role involves gathering health data through exercise programs and engaging participants during program delivery. You will need to travel to remote communities across NSW to collect data following tailored protocols specific to each research site.

Additional responsibilities include preparing technical reports manuscripts and grant applications; supporting ethical and governance processes; coordinating research activities to meet project timelines.

This position reports to Associate Professor Kylie Gwynne and is funded until August 2027. Candidates can be based anywhere in NSW with occasional travel to UNSWs campus as required.

Who You Are:

We are looking for someone who is aligned with UNSWs vision and values and who holds the following:

  • Previous community engagement work and working with Indigenous community in particular
  • Previous experience working in the field of health sport or physical training is desirable
  • A degree in nursing health sport/exercise or a Certificate IV in Fitness would be highly regarded
  • Demonstrated experience in building respectful trust-based relationships with at-risk communities and marginalised groups
  • Experience in supporting research - knowledge of research protocols experimental design and planning as involved in developing research projects and reporting against milestones would be ideal but can be trained
  • Experience working with a range of computer systems and applications including Microsoft Suite
  • The ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • A valid NSW Driver Licence (a personal vehicle is not required; rental vehicles will be provided when field work is required)

Most of the travel will happen in NSW and occasionally in other states.
