Position Description
Instructors are responsible for:
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Learning all election-related content outlined in the manual and curriculum.
- Providing excellent customer service to the election workers of Harris County. (in-person & on phone)
- Helping other election departments as needed.
- Driving to all areas of Harris County to train. (some training sites may be 45 minutes to an hour away from home address)
- Driving at night and on highways.
- Arriving on time for shift.
- Communicating with intention utilizing printed resources.
- Serve as a point of contact for judges experiencing challenges during setup throughout voting hours and during vote center closure.
- Provide on-site coaching and support to ensure adherence to election procedures and policies.
- Drive to on-site last minute emergencies in election periods.
- Know when to ask for support and/or clarity.
- Accept feedback from team leads and upper management sometimes in the middle of a training.

Requirements
Education and Experience:
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- Must be able to work under stress and able to work without direct supervision.
- Knowledgeable of the general operations of an election and the Harris County website.
- Be professional and have good interpersonal skills.
- Computer literate proficient in Microsoft Office suite and be willing to learn new computer programs and applications.
- Must have the ability to prioritize tasks and possess excellent communication skills. Understands and can explain the ePollBook application and the voting process.

General Information
Position Type and Typical Hours of Work:
- Temp Full-time Position End Date:March 13 2026(Qualified individuals may be asked to work future elections.)
- Days and hours of work are covering every day of the week though individuals are normally not scheduled to work more than 5 days a week.
- 30 - 35 hours per week with the possibility of overtime in high-need time of election periods. Work week 5 days a week must be able to work weekends.
- Holidays off: Thanksgiving week 11/24/2025 - 11/28/2025 Christmas vacation 12/22/2025 - 01/02/2026 01/19/2026 04/03/2026 and other holidays not yet scheduled.
- Between election periods hours will be reduced and mandatory vacations will be scheduled.
- During election: shifts range from 8 - 10 hours. Three mandatory days in the election shifts will range from 14 - 20 hours.
- Time off request can be submitted at designated times.
- Blackout periods are 10/13/2025 - 11/11/2025 and 02/09/2026 - 03/10/2026.
