Indigenous Pathways is a unique paid full-time 9-month learning and development program designed to support First Nations Inuit and Mtis individuals in honing their skills and launching a career in media at CBC.

As part of an all-Indigenous cohort youll receive comprehensive training dedicated career development support and invaluable work experience. No prior journalism or media production education or job experience is required to apply. The program runs from October 2025 to June 2026.

This year one successful candidate will join our CBC Sports Digital team in Toronto. This is a full-time position within a hybrid work model requiring a minimum of two days a week in the office with additional in-office days as needed. Please note that relocation costs are not covered.

This Pathways role is for you if you:

  • Are First Nations Inuit or Mtis.

  • Have a strong understanding of and genuine interest in sports spanning both high-performance (Olympics) and professional levels.

  • Have a deep interest in multimedia storytelling writing research and fact-checking.

  • Are connected to your community and passionate about its stories.

  • Want to gain practical hands-on experience working at CBC.

  • Are willing to travel or potentially relocate for work with CBC.

  • Can provide storytelling examples and ideas.

  • Are interested in developing technical skills.

  • Are a skilled writer.

  • Have exceptional organizational and interpersonal skills with a proven ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

  • Are a critical thinker who demonstrates ethics and integrity.

  • Are a good communicator and team player.

  • Take a proactive approach to problem-solving and a knack for finding creative solutions to production challenges.

  • Have an openness to new ideas and a desire to continuously learn and adapt.

  • Thrive under deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Have some relevant skills or training:

  • Basic Adobe Premiere Pro editing skills are a strong asset

  • Photography and Photoshop skills are an asset.

  • Post-secondary courses training or hands-on experience in radio and television production is an asset.

  • Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset.

In this program you will:

  • Develop essential skills and tools for advancing a career in media.

  • Explore multi-platform storytelling through writing images and sound.

  • Create compelling stories that resonate with Indigenous audiences and reflect diverse perspectives.

  • Grow relationships with and be supported by mentors trainers peers and Indigenous colleagues.

  • Gain valuable professional experience in a dynamic media environment.

  • Work closely with Producers and Senior Producers to craft engaging written and video content transforming complex stories into relatable and enjoyable experiences for our audience.

  • Take initiative and showcase your independent judgment while developing your skills in a supportive environment.

  • Collaborate with Producers to develop and execute compelling digital content for CBC Sports including the 2026 Milano/Cortina Olympics and Paralympics.

  • Create articles and social media generating fresh ideas and ensuring accuracy through thorough research.

  • Coordinate with various external partners supporting production efforts by preparing materials and publishing impactful social media content to boost visibility.

  • Optimize and package content for distribution and at times assist Producers with assignments editing and directing.
