Job Description

Full-Time and Permanent; Non-Exempt; 8 Hours/Day; 252 Days/Year; 12 Months/Year; Grade MM

General Responsibilities

Performs a variety of skilled masters level tasks associated with the installation modification and repair of gas oil or electric commercial heating systems and related equipment; issues job assignments to subordinates and supervises the work of outside contractors; performs related work as required.

Education and Experience

Completion of high school including or supplemented by completion of appropriate apprenticeship heating plant trade training and considerably responsible experience in the appropriate trade some of which will have been at the masters level or equivalent; or any equivalent combination of education and experience that would provide the above noted knowledge skill and ability.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION

Certificate of Asbestos Training; 2 psi Natural Gas Certificate (Virginia Natural Gas Company) and manufacturers certifications to repair specific equipment as necessary; possession of an appropriate valid automotive vehicle operators license.

PHYSICAL ATTRIBUTES

Strength and dexterity necessary to perform all essential tasks including lifting up-to 50 pounds stooping bending reaching kneeling and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions for extended periods of time; vision necessary to determine color differences; wearing a respirator; working from ladders scaffolds and platforms up to 30 feet high; working in extreme temperatures and under damp conditions.

Essential Job Functions

  • Observe monitor train assign lead and make recommendations to superior regarding the work of subordinates assigned to crew to coordinate and supervise the work of outside contractors including the ability to prepare bid proposals to perform well under emergency repair or changing work priority situations.
  • Troubleshoot test repair maintain or modify commercial heating plant systems and related equipment to plan and perform work of the trade at the full masters level.
  • Learn new technology follow written and oral instructions diagrams blueprints schematics (mechanical electrical and electronic) and manufacturers manuals to estimate time and materials needed for small jobs and to perform routine record keeping tasks and arithmetical computations.
  • Maintain good interpersonal relationships.
  • Use of tools equipment and materials pertinent to the trade.
  • Display thorough knowledge of a variety of heating plant systems including design operation maintenance repair and parts variations thorough knowledge of related mechanical plumbing EPA and electrical codes and other guidelines
  • Display thorough knowledge of properly using equipment materials methods practices and tools used in the commercial gas oil and electric heating trade.
