Indigenous Pathways is a paid full-time 9-month learning and development opportunity that supports First Nations Inuit or Mtis to hone their skills at CBC. Indigenous Pathways provides training as part of an all-Indigenous cohort career development support and work experience. Education in digital development or media education or job experience are not required to apply. The program starts in October 2025 and runs until June 2026.

One successful candidate will be based with each of this years host teams. This position can be based anywhere in Canada. This role is within the CBC Digital Strategy & Product (DS&P) department with the Accessibility team.

This role is full-time. The team works in a hybrid model working from home and in the office orworking 100% remotely if preferred.

This Pathways role is for you if you are:

  • First Nations Inuit or Mtis

  • Disabled or neurodivergent (your lived experience is an asset and not a requirement)

  • Deeply interested in digital experiences like websites and apps

  • Keen to develop technical and digital accessibility skills

  • Connected to your community and passionate about its digital needs

Familiar with:

  • Digital accessibility and user experience

  • Assistive technologies such as screen readers and screen magnifiers

  • Standards (such as WCAG EN 301 549)

  • Empathetic and proactive about solving problems for users

  • A critical thinker who demonstrates ethics and integrity

  • A good communicator who can work in teams from different areas

  • Comfortable with creating reports dashboards and slide presentations using simple language

Your role and impact:

In this program participants will:

  • Develop skills and tools for advancing a career in digital products specifically digital accessibility

  • Work on events of national importance like the Olympics and Paralympics

  • Explore how to include under-represented users when researching and creating digital experiences

  • Grow relationships with and be supported by mentors trainers peers and Indigenous colleagues

You will report to the Senior Manager of Product Accessibility.

Tasks:

Make digital products accessible by:

  • Learning how accessibility is relevant through the design and development of websites and apps

  • Conducting accessibility reviews

  • Participating in usability tests with users with disabilities

  • Participating in champions meetups conferences and training

How you will be supported:

  • Onboarding and training as part of an all-Indigenous Pathways cohort

  • A daily checkpoint with the entire Accessibility team

  • A workmate who will be there to answer any questions and guide with tasks

  • Bi-weekly 1:1 check ins with your manager to discuss community supports and wellbeing

  • Adhoc chats with members within and outside DS&P such as Equity & Inclusion lead Product Managers senior members researchers content accessibility and other peers to learn about CBCs purpose and strategy

  • Opportunity to participate in CBC Employee Resource Groups and department wide events such as monthly demos

  • Opportunity to attend conferences and events of interest to the candidate e.g. A11yTO conference in October
