DISTRICT TECHNICIAN AND CYBERSECURITY SPECIALIST

Department: Information Technology

Reports To: Technology Administrator

Job Type: Full-time

Leominster Public Schools (LPS) consists of 12 schools in the city of Leominster MA. The districts administration recognizes the rapid pace of technological change and the expectation to use technology tools for teaching learning assessment management and communication. LPS supports a learning environment that promotes career and college readiness. The technology department supports over 6000 students in grades PK-12 and over 1200 staff members. The technology department serves an end-user community with high expectations for reliable systems and timely support.

Position Summary: The District Technician & Cybersecurity Specialist job is a dual-role position responsible for the maintenance and support of our organizations Chromebook Windows and Apple environment. This position will have a large focus on the implementation and monitoring of cybersecurity measures. It is the responsibility of this position to ensure the reliable and secure operation of all network systems protects against cyber threats and provides technical support to end-users. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of IT system management a foundational knowledge of cybersecurity best practices and excellent problem-solving skills as well as customer service skills.

Key Responsibilities:

IT Systems Management

  • Deploy configure and maintain physical and virtual servers (Windows) ensuring uptime patching backups and performance monitoring.
  • Install configure and troubleshoot network equipment ensuring reliable service and security.
  • Administer the Google Admin Console to enroll and manage Chromebooks apply policies manage user accounts and troubleshoot device issues.
  • Use Jamf MDM to enroll configure secure update and monitor iPads ensuring compliance and application deployment.
  • Provide district-level Tier2 support assisting Tier1 building based IT staff handling escalations and working with complex technical issues.
  • Maintain and reconcile the asset inventory tracking serial numbers user assignments device statuses and ensuring the inventory system is always up to date.
  • Create and maintain documentation for system configurations standard operating procedures support workflows and inventory records.

Cybersecurity Operations

  • Implementing and enforcing cybersecurity policies procedures and controls.
  • Monitor security systems (e.g. SIEM EDR antivirus) for alerts and anomalies.
  • Respond to and investigate security incidents including malware infections phishing attempts and unauthorized access.
  • Perform vulnerability assessments and assist in penetration testing.
  • Manage identity and access management (IAM) systems including user accounts permissions and multi-factor authentication.
  • Assist in the development of cybersecurity awareness training for employees.
  • Maintain security documentation and incident response playbooks.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest cybersecurity threats trends and technologies.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Information Technology Computer Science Cybersecurity or a related field OR equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience in a network administration network technician or similar role.
  • Experience in a cybersecurity role or with significant cybersecurity responsibilities.
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity frameworks (e.g. NIST MITRE ATT&CK).
  • G Suite Certification.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical users.
  • Knowledge of incident response procedures.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and move equipment (up to 30 lbs).
  • Ability to work in server rooms and data centers which may include exposure to loud noise and confined spaces.
