The College of Arts & Sciences Office of Faculty Actions (OFA) provides essential support to 700 full time faculty members as well as many part-time teaching faculty and academic researchers throughout their careers at Boston University. From hiring and orientation through retirement OFA supports all aspects of the faculty life cycle including professional development tenure promotion sabbatical and leaves of absence. OFA liaises with departments on all faculty affairs matters and provides advice to individual faculty members working closely in tandem with four associate deans for the faculty the Dean of CAS and the CAS Business Office. We are currently seeking a Tenure & Promotion Administrator to join our dynamic and fast-paced office. Tenure & Promotion Administrator Description Reporting to the Director of Faculty Actions in the College of Arts & Sciences the Tenure & Promotion Administrator independently manages the tenure and promotion process for all professorial faculty in the College of Arts and Sciences. The Tenure & Promotion Administrator liaises with departments to ensure all professorial faculty tenure and/or promotion cases are being reviewed according to college and university policies and procedures. The Tenure & Promotion Administrator supports the college level process working closely with the CAS Appointment Promotion and Tenure (APT) committee and the Dean of CAS during their review stages. The Tenure & Promotion Administrator is responsible for keeping information about tenure & promotion up to date and for maintaining records related to that process. This position also manages the promotion process for full-time Lecturers in the College of Arts and Sciences and the mid-tenure review process for Assistant Professors.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Create a calendar of deadlines for the college tenure and promotion process and ensure all participants meet deadlines.
  • Review materials submitted by candidates the department the CAS APT and the Dean for completeness and accuracy. This includes proofreading APT and Deans reports.
  • Solicit external evaluations for all tenure and promotion cases on behalf of the Dean and Department Chair.
  • Maintain all files related to the tenure & promotion process including redacting department APT and Deans reports to remove all confidential information to supply a version to the candidate.
  • Provide administrative support to the APT committee including scheduling weekly meetings working with the Chair of APT to update the APT committee manual and to make subcommittee assignments and answer questions and record votes during meetings. This includes working with the associate deans to recommend possible APT committee members.
  • Provide support to the Director of Faculty Actions on other matters as needed.
  • Assign work to the Senior Program Coordinator and a strong cohort of student office assistants as related to the tenure & promotion process.

Required Skills

  • A cover letter is required for consideration.
  • Bachelors degree and 1-3 years of experience.
  • Knowledge of and experience working on tenure & promotion related issues preferred.
