Job Description

We are working closely alongside a Local Authority in Southwark to assist with the appointment of a HGV Driver on a 3-month contract highly likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.

Rate of Pay: 15.82 - 20.52 per hour

Summary:

To drive vehicles up to 32 tonne as directed by management and to undertake other duties in association with the type of vehicle driven and/or the specific service that is being delivered.

Responsibilities:

  • Act as the lead operative with responsibility for the completion of all work allocated to the vehicle safely and to a high standard.
  • Undertake vehicle checks on allocated vehicle at the start of every shift and ensure that it is legally compliant and roadworthy.
  • Comply with the Highway Code and all traffic laws including the security and weight of loads. Operate the vehicle and all ancillary equipment such as tail lift and bin lift mechanisms in accordance with the training provided and in accordance with manufacturers instructions.
  • Complete logbooks fully and accurately either in writing or with the use of information technology where it has been provided.
  • Keep driving licence Driver Qualification card (CPC licence) and Tacho card up to date.

Essential Requirements:

  • Full clean driving licence for vehicles up to 32 tonnes. (Category C licence.)
  • Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) card holder
  • Manual Handling Certificate

Experience and Skills:

  • Experience of prioritising work to ensure service delivery is maintained.
  • Experience of working as part of a team to deliver required outcomes.
  • Previous dustcart driving experience preferably with a local authority and/or a waste services company.
  • Ability to carry out vehicle safety checks to recognise vehicle defects within the scope of the vehicle briefing and training provided and to make records of vehicle safety checks in logbooks.
  • Ability to complete driver hours records where required to do so.
  • Understanding of the requirement for specific types of waste to be separately collected and transported for separate disposal.
