Job Description

The Department of Radiology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center ranked the No. 1 hospital in the Dallas-Fort Worth area and the No. 2 hospital in Texas by U.S. News and World Report is seeking a full-time Clinical Imaging Physicist to work with the Medical Physics Division. The candidate must have a post-graduate degree in an appropriate field of Physics or Engineering at least three years of experience in medical imaging physics and meet Texas State Medical Physicist Licensure requirements. Desirable candidates possess certifications in Diagnostic/Nuclear Medical Physics or are eligible for both subspecialties. Appointment rank will be commensurate with academic accomplishments and experience.

The Medical Physics division is a team of 12 medical physicists that provide medical imaging physics support to three major hospital systems Clements University Hospital Parkland Health and Hospital System and Childrens Health System including their affiliated clinics. Principle duties will include equipment performance checks facility design and equipment specification radiation shielding design and inspection radiation dose estimation radiation dose management and tracking accreditation support (ACR TJC etc.) regulatory support general oversight of modality quality assurance programs troubleshooting of image quality problems and protocol development and management. While the appointment will be primarily clinical the successful candidate will be expected to engage in academic activities appropriate to the university environment. All members are expected to contribute to the Medical Imaging Physics Residency Program and participate in radiological physics instruction of radiology residents and fellows. A track record of funded research and publications in medical imaging informatics or molecular imaging would be beneficial.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS at the time of hire
A post-graduate degree in an appropriate field of Physics or Engineering
At least three years of experience as a clinical medical physicist or completion of a CAMPEP-accredited residency program
Board certifications in both Diagnostic or Nuclear Medical Physics or eligibility for board certification with completion within three years.
Eligibility for a Medical Physicist License in the State of Texas

The Medical Physics Division supports over 500 pieces of equipment across all imaging modalities. Robust growth is anticipated based on demographic projections for the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area and plans to continue the expansion of imaging services into adjacent communities.

This position is security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code 51.215 which authorizes UT Southwestern to obtain criminal history record information. To the extent this position requires the holder to research work on or have access to critical infrastructure as defined in Section 113.001(2) of the Texas Business and Commerce Code the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the critical infrastructure is a minimum qualification to be hired and to continue to be employed in the position.

Appointment rank will be commensurate with academic accomplishment and experience. Consideration may be given to applicants seeking less than a full-time schedule.
