Job Title: Paraprofessional

Position Summary
The Paraprofessional plays a vital role in supporting the educational and developmental needs of students by assisting teachers with instructional and non-instructional tasks. This position involves working directly with students under the guidance and direction of certified staff contributing to a positive and productive learning environment.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional coursework or certifications in education or child development preferred.
- Previous successful experience working with children in an educational or similar setting.
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with students staff and administrators.
- Ability to accept direction and work collaboratively in a subordinate role.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist with the preparation organization and distribution of instructional materials and classroom resources.
- Support teachers in delivering instruction by working with individuals or small groups of students as directed.
- Provide supplemental instruction and reinforcement activities under the supervision of a certified teacher.
- Act as a support resource in addressing student-specific needs including health-related issues following school protocols and individualized plans.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions and responsibilities.
- Participate in training opportunities and professional development to enhance skills and effectiveness in the role.
- Attend team meetings or consultations as needed to support student success.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the classroom teacher or administrator.

- May be required to bend squat kneel crouch crawl stoop or lift/move items exceeding 40 pounds (e.g. classroom equipment instructional materials or supplies).
- Must be physically able to respond to students needs and classroom situations as required.
Working Conditions
- Work is performed primarily in elementary classrooms and throughout the school environment including playgrounds and hallways during arrival dismissal and transitions.
- May be required to assist students with diverse learning and behavioral needs.
Salary
- Salary commensurate with Unit C salary scale (available on the Wakefield Public Schools website)
- Salary scale range: $30835-$37012
